NoVa People, heads up

Some misguided 'truckers' have decided that this is a smart thing to do. Never mind that those working for the government are mostly still at home and that Congress people travel in small motorcades or not at all.

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/...st-congressmen

"Tractor-trailer drivers will intentionally clog the inner loop of the Washington, D.C., beltway beginning on the morning of Oct. 11, according to a coordinator of the upcoming "Truckers Ride for the Constitution" rally.

Organizers of the three-day ride want to call attention to a litany of trucker frustrations and express their disapproval of national political leaders."

"Andrews said last week 3,000 truckers had RSVP-ed to the event, and Conlon says he's now lost count of the number. He says he's receiving around 100 emails a day from prospective participants."

Hooray. Now we have these idiots to make the traffic around here that much worse.

What's funny is that we don't need their help, I am looking at a clogged beltway outside Tysons right now!

The easiest way to shut down the beltway is to park trucks on the American Legion Memorial Bridge.

You don't need 3000 trucks for that...30 would do...

LOL, no one will even notice. Their description of the event sounds like the everyday traffic here. They have no idea...

If they gang up in any significant numbers near the Spur in either direction, it will blow for that area.

Thats their plan it seems. Block off exits basically. Put that many trucks nose to tail and you have a rolling wreck waiting to happen. With a truck being between 170' and 230' in length, times a projected 3000, that is a mess.

Unless the truckers are between our HH hangout and 66, looks like a typical day to me. We'll check again this Thursday at 11 to see how effective they are.

Yeah, it's pretty much awful all the way from 95 to Chevy Chase during rush hour and random portions of the day - but it certainly can be worse. I've lived in Annandale/Arlington/Mclean since 1976 and there have been utter fucking disasters during that time. That said, there are plenty of back roads to take in order to get around. Or maybe it's a WFH day.

I had NO problem whatsoever getting close to the beltway this morning. I think if they wanted to make a point, they should have picked a different day than a Friday (which is much lighter traffic wise than any other day of the work week).

They are working against themselves...if they want to have an impact, they need to re-open the gov't. Traffic has been light since the shutdown, Friday all the more so.

From the news they are making no impact. Four trucks blocked the beltway in Va until they got pulled and a warning from VSP not to do it again. All in all another non protest
