Nice to meet you...

I just wanted to start a thread here in the Misc. section so you all could ask questions about the announcement Chris and I made earlier (link). I know this is a tight group and this might come as a surprise to some. I look forward to getting to know you all and earning your trust in the years to come.

If you have any questions, please post 'em here.

Welcome! OK, I have a few.

1. When are you buying a Defender?

2. What were the motivations behind buying D-90.com?

3. Will there be any changes to the disclosure of the information we provided when we signed up for the site? i.e. e-mail addresses being sold, etc.?

4. What changes should we expect?

5. Please, no ads. (not a question) or anything that'll slow the site down.

6. When will it be for sale again?

7. Can I be an admin, too?

8. Who is "megamatt"?

Can we change the look of the site? I'm tired of seeing the same truck (no offense to Jorge) and I hate the puke green. Plus, everyone at work knows what I'm looking at right away so it's time to change it up.

Again answered in the bio, but expect ads galore ( even if grandfathered, new ads related to rovers will occur )

As soon as the ROI dictates it

A - not profitable enough to self exist
B - increase the value to turn it for profit

I figured he just linked to the thread I already read earlier from CvC - looks like aside from updates to that post, Andy posted as well, which was not the case earlier. Yup, lots answered there. Rick Perry: "oops"

Welcome Andy.

Really hope you get that grandfathered/no adds option worked out properly and it/they don't slow down or cause problems with the site. This has always been a pretty robust site where we can get our fix of (mostly) LR related nonsense 24/7/365.

Sucks to be a newbie from now on I guess?

Ian

I'd like to. As I stated in the other thread, I don't know when. I spend a good portion of every year down here in Brazil and I am consider buying a 110 down here but the exchange rate sucks. I'd love to own a 90 similar to the one my Dad had but it's not much of a family car with a two year old and 3 month baby. I plan to learn all about the Defender market in the USA and once the kids are a bit older and I can take some weekends to go enjoy some trails I'll be looking for a shorter wheelbase 90.

Well, I love Defenders and forums, so it was a natural fit. I also have a small business (1 person) which manages forums and we squeeze out a few bucks in the process. A site like this won't make me rich but hopefully I can trade some fabricators for some gear.

I will NEVER sell your email or share your private data with any third parties. I will post a privacy policy soon. In there it says we can share information with partners if you have opted in but no one has opted in. In 10 years of working with forums I have never worked with any partners that I shared a single bit of information and plan to keep it that way. Your info is safe.

I'd like to install a garage and move the owner bios into that so members can update them on their own. I'd like to offer a free smart phone app so members don't have to pay to install ForumRunner. I'd like to consider some cosmetic tweaks like allowing the page to expand wider since monitors have gotten wider. The header could be moved from a frame so you can view the navigation links when you click on an email and get to the site from a direct link instead of through the home page, etc.

As I posted in that announcement, all members from this point back will be grandfathered and not see any ads if you choose.

Are you going to keep the site (forum) as is please don't litter it with ads and pop ups. There is a vendors section if they want to contribute. This is one of the best sites on the www. Good luck I am anxious to see what happens.

Welcome Andy! I am also anxious/excited to see what cool changes will be made to the d-90 source. Your plan sounds pretty good. I especially like the bios revamp idea and the upgraded iphone app.

I know you say you won't sell the site... If there is ever a cold day in Hell can the members have a first right of refusal? Maybe start a co-op or something?

This site desperately needs something built-in that will auto-resize photos that are too large.

Also disable bitmaps so that ron has to take some new photos!
