Nice Jeep!

can I get a count on how many times you hear that a week? Then they say, "I didn't realize it is a Toyota"

It's one of the things I plan on keeping a tab on this summer while I'm out on my cross-country road-trip. I probably hear it at least 3 times a week right now, so I am trying to get a license plate that says "NOTAGP."

It's such a rare truck around here I'm getting complete strangers walking into my garage to find out more about it. There are a couple of Series Rovers and an Ex-MOD 95 110 in London, Ontario and then there's mine. And I'm smack dab in the middle of Ford country.

Almost every time I stop somewhere out! I just say "thanks" any more.

When I lived in Texas, the "nice Jeep" was usually followed by an offer to buy - those dudes love big trucks down there!

The worst I heard was when I was working the LR booth at the Chicago Auto Show. If any of you have been there you know that Jeep sets up a huge indoor track and take people on rides over some man-made terrain (nothing special, no side tilts or real articulation, just some hills really). Anyway, LR stopped hanging Trophy Trucks from logs etc. a few years ago and in keeping with the new marketing philosophy, all we have are a bunch of rovers on the ground for people to sit in and look at. Some guy I was talking to said to me "so can any of these do what these jeeps are doing?" I told him a LR would walk all over those things off-road. A Centre Manager from another dealership said "Yeah, lets put some water and mud on that track and see which one makes it up then!"

Someone else asked me "So which one of these is supposed to be able to go off-road?" When I said all of them he started telling me how there was a LR following him off road in his jeep and it got stuck btw 2 trees - like it's LR's fault the guy drove a 6' wide Rover through a 5'11" opening!

UGGGHHHH!

I hear you. I received the below parking ticket on my street. Didn't know my truck was a Range Rover and certainly didn't think it was Green in color.

So Dave - are you going to fight the ticket? Much as I admire the boys in blue, human error is in your favor.

In my area, no one knows what my D90 is, though they do not call it a Jeep. More depressing though; there is also no "club" feelings here. SII, SIII, D90, pre '94 Disco.s etc - no body gives you the nod. I get more (no pun intended) from the Jeep drivers and dessert junkies than LR owners. Guess it must be me. I am going to have to stop giving them all the finger and screaming out the window.

I had one neighbor that use to call my 90 a Scout and/or and International Harvester. I never corrected him but it was always worth a few chuckles.

Stopped in at Bass Pro today and on my way in a guy says "where did you get your Cruiser outfitted"?

Before I finished saying uhhhh, he says did you do it yourself. To shorten the conversation I just said yeah. Then he told me about his Rubicon and flyfishing.

It's all good

I actually had a guy tell me one time that Nissan owned and built Land Rovers. He said "not too many people know that". I agreed on the last point. Now that I am a Wrangler owner as well, I just shrug off the "nice Jeep" compliments to the 90. No one ever says "nice Rover" when I am in the Jeep though?????

Nissan??? I thought Hyundai

My buddy has been trying to convince me that a few of these unobservant individuals might actually mean to call the Deffender a Jeep in the general term (a genericized trademark or colloquial), as you would Kleenex, Jell-o or Vaseline. I ending the discussion by calling him a 'fat head' and making him walk the rest of the way home.

I had a guy say he had the same exact truck that I did. I have a Defender 130. He went on and on about how great our trucks are. Near the end of the conversation he said "yep, these Scouts sure are great trucks. I just agreed with him and told him to bring it by sometime to compare trucks.
