newbie question

Sorry for my ignorance here, but why do I have one that is open and one that is closed?

Open for fresh air for the heater intake, the other is a blanking off plate. Its opposite on RHD trucks. Keep in mind that there is a drain(that can clog) that lets rainwater etc out. Something to check if you are new to the truck, or if your heater smells funky.
