It's got a narrow drum on it, you won't get much line on it. Never used one though.

That is right, it is just a short drum version of the XD9000 that is equipped with 50 feet of synthetic rope. WARN designed this for the guys looking for a light weight winch to put into buggies or rock crawlers.


A bit of history behind this, the original short drum winch WARN designed was for the Land Rover Freelander used in the 1998 Camel Trophy, it was a 6000 lb rated version. We put together a portable winch package that worked with the Safety Devices front and rear bars on the Freelanders.

I was at the 1998 Camel Trophy International Selections up in Sweden working for WARN and got to see the short drum 6000's in action. From there we came up with the 9000 version for the US rock crawling market.

I have it on my truck and its great. I like the light weight Idea. does not put tons of weight on the front end. If you need more line just buy an extender or a long strap.
