New LR3 model

FYI, Land Rover just released today their plans to introduce a late year addition to the New LR3 line up. The new addition is an entry level V-6 variation with a starting price just under $39K.....that's down from a base V-8 SE price of $45K. Just thougth some people would want to know.

I heard 215 HP on that puny V6. Sad really. My subaru has more HP from the factory than the LR3 will...

215 is still better than my 99 Disco, which only had like 182 or something. At least they're coming out with a lower cost version of the LR3. Kind of puts it back in past Discovery price range.

Yeah, not only do you get a low HP V6, but now you have no sunroof's, and a bunch of other options fly out the door...

All for a low $39K

Lot's of value there.

My understanding is that the LR3 V6 will still have all 3 sunroofs standard.....though the it won't have leather, just Duragrain.

Now that Rover is over will LR have a problem getting the K Series V6 for the freelander? It needs a better motor anyway - this V6 would do nicely. and just why oh why wont they put the V6 turbo diesel in it. That would just spank the competition, especially if they added terrrain response at the same time.

LR3s with the V8 are very nice - quiet, very comfy (phenomenal ride quality), spacious etc. havent off roaded one yet but will probably before the year is out.

This weekend we had the opportunity to look over an LR3 up close. It has always reminded me of some Euro van I had seen a while back, and even more so in person. I did a quick search and found it - the Renault Kangoo.

It is sure to cost thousands less, and the Kangoo offers no false pretenses when serving the utility/minivan market. They both have IFS for a smooth ride, lightweight plastic trim, and modern interiors. Start the petition list, Ford should offer a rebadged Kangoo as that new model LR keeps hinting at. The design DNA is already there.

Here's a better comparison. In other pictures, it looks as if Renault and Land Rover rented out the same grassy field for the safari-feel photo shoot.
