New Logo for Dividing Creek

Well it finally happened. Like Justin @ Lucky 8, I have been contacted by Land Rover's attorneys and it has been sugested that I change my logo as they feel my use of the "oval" and the word "rover" in my website address is confusing would be consumers.
So I am looking for creative idea's. Some of those who frequent this site are incredibly talented and I have no ability in this realm. I now own the domain dividingcreekimports.com and that will soon be the site address. In the meantime I have pulled the old logo from the site. Credit will be given on each page for the design chosen.

Here's the current no longer to be used on a black background:

I just tried to make you a new logo using paint. I won't lie it involved me drawing a picture of a cock spraying rovers out as jizz.

Work in progress

Tell them to pound sand.

I propose a logo based on "parody" fair use.

I am not sure "rover" is trademarked. I don't see why you could not use it. Green oval maybe.

not legal advice and I am not an IP lawyer.

I think they are going after this in order to distance themselves further from the Defender line.

I'll work on some tonight Doug. what do you think about "Land Rover Imports" instead of "Rover Imports"? You might need that now since the logo will look less like the Land Rover logo.

I think the issue is with using the branding at all.. using 'Rover' .. 'Land Rover' .. the green oval, etc... a lot of the companies that have dealt with Rovers in the past have renamed themselves using the name 'British' instead of rover.. like Dividing Creek British Vehicle Import or Diving Creek British 4X4 Imports or something.

"Credit will be given on each page for the design chosen."

How much does that work out to in actual money?

It was amazing. Picture me sitting in my cube drawing a green dick while a coworker walks by in disgust. I will admit I asked her which paint brush to use for the jizz. We both agreed spray paint gave the best affect

In fairness I do import other makes. Did an S class just last week. ECR has Rover in their name, Rovers North has rover in their name, Keith's company is Rover Tracks, Columbia Rover,Rovers Down South, Rovers Out East, etc the list goes on. I'm not sure how much the oval shape is their intellectual property either.

@ least this time the letter wasn't accompanied by the email you wrote.

Dan,
Was hoping you would weigh in. See the attached letter. They don't have issue with Land Rover being used in text etc. They don't want "rover" in the website address or logo-seems they are reaching to me.

Wow! That is funny as hell.

I do think it is a pain the ass to have to deal with this. Doing a new logo and changing the web address. Hopefully you will get something better then you had before.

Have any decals of the old logo that you want to sell off? I'm trying to collect all of the banned ones

I'll see if the wife wants to do anything up, is there a prize for the winner, like a 84 110

This is very common with large corporations... McDonalds and Intel go trigger happy when it comes to stuff like this.

I have a friend that got sued by Intel because her webpage had "intel" in the domain name. The company name was Intelligence... The letter had the same wording: "...is likely to cause confusion...".

you know that scene in Caddyshack where Randy Quaid climbs over the table and threatens the other attorney's family and dog? Thats the kind of attorney you guys need to go to battle when LR sends those messages. I don't think old Randy is up to much these days since he fell of the wagon. Maybe someone should call him and see if he wants to make a few bucks.
