Entry-level LAND ROVER models start in the $36,000 range, and some higher-end models, including the RANGE ROVER, retail for over $80,000. The LAND ROVER and RANGE ROVER vehicles are widely-viewed as “status symbol” and have made numerous appearances in pop culture, including in dozens of songs, on television shows and in movies. For example, a number of songs feature LAND ROVER in the lyrics, including by well-known artists such as Linkin Park, MC Lyte, and Juvenile.
No real comment. I just thought it was funny how Land Rover views themselves and the importance of their name. 'Jeep' is also oft-referenced in some parts of the world as 'any 4WD vehicle'. I don't know, but I'm pretty sure they see this as a GOOD thing and let the misnomer flourish. Land Rover is so dense that they would rather 'protect' their "Status Symbol" name.

However, I assume they don't challenge it when Juvenile uses their name in songs. Backwards.

Read it - $0. They ignored LR. It went to arbitration without their input.

FYI I only skimmed the document, but it didn't look like mountain rovers paid anything since it was a domain name registered with go daddy and they took action under their user agreement. It seems reasonable that godaddy should protect its client from something like this.

An attorney somewhere filed for MountainRover as respondent that connotes expense.

maybe I'm reading this wrong:

"GoDaddy.com, LLC has verified that Respondent is bound by the GoDaddy.com, LLC registration agreement and has thereby agreed to resolve domain disputes brought by third parties in accordance with ICANN’s Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (the “Policy”)."

I'm no expert but this arbitration only applies to their use of the Mountainrover.com domain and would not prevent LR from going after them in a local court to change the name of the business.

But wouldn't the findings of this pretty much sway whatever court room judge making a decision to say, "You guys are dumb, go try to figure out how selling more products at a lower price will net more money overall than few products at a higher price."

Arbitrator took several shots at LR lawyers for their poor workmanship.

Some things do rub off.

You may be right. My host is Yahoo and they had no interest in being involved.

This is a UDRP decision strictly relating to the domain name. LR did not sue this outfit and still reserves the right to go to federal court.

All this decision determined is that the owner of the domain did not violate ICANN's terms of use. The standard for winning a UDRP domain name dispute is extremely narrow.

This decision in no way indicates a third-party has a right to use ROVER in their brand name for similar goods or services.

Doug, they ignored the cease and desist letters and did not respond to the UDRP proceeding.

In related news, the Mars Rover "Opportunity" is celebrating 10 years today!
It has outlasted its design lifespan by years...
"Spirit" died a few years ago but this Rover keeps going...

The real question is: Why does LRNA let NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory get away with calling this robot a ROVER???

LRNA must send a cease & desist letter to NASA pronto!

I thought this was funny... Every employee at our dealership had to take this "Dealer Advocacy" test for Land Rover. Its basically to help employees be more knowledgable about the product and its history. It is also to help with their new "Customer First" initiative. Before you take the test you go through this web course. Part of the web course included a timeline. For the year 1999, it had the release of the Discovery Series II and showed this picture.

Clearly a modified D1. So just for shits and giggles, I googled "1999 Land Rover Discovery" and found that this image is the first result. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=1999+Land+Rover+Discovery

I would love to find the owner of this image, because I doubt the third party that made the training course had permission to use it.
