The "V" can be your company icon if you see fit
Maybe it can be used for promotional, advertising and brand building.
its a subliminal male symbol.

Need to loose Land rover in the name.

Doug needs a tagline

what a load of crap.
Are you or are you not importing vehicles they made? If anything its confusing if you don't use the word Rover somewhere. I agree with Gustavo about not having rover inside of the oval which they have made abundantly clear is pivotal part of THEIR logo.

Rover is a generic word, its only a trade mark with the work Land or Range in front of it...
Also, you LEGALLY bought that domain name, they should take that portion of their claim up with ICANN not you. You can legally buy landrovernorthamericaisrunbymarketingmajorsandlawy ers.com (which is available! see pic) if you wanted to, they can't tell you what you can and can't own if its sold legally.

Maybe someone should call him and see if he wants to make a few bucks.

Nobody owns a shape and I could write you up all the examples of how your logo and brand is different than their logo and brand.

Why not write them back and tell them to go after Ford, KIA and Hyundai too for using the oval and italic font, not to mention some others
I like the way you think

Allow me to start by telling you Sod Off.
I have changed the background to white and and reworked my logo
As far as removing the word rover from my domain it is not for you to say as it is a legal corporation in the state of maryland, HOWEVER in an effort to assist you with your quest, said domain it is available for sale in the amount of $ 500,000.00.
Please include a check in said amount for me to cease the operation as it stands

concur, this sounds to me like not much more than a shot over the bow (see what I did there with the boat reference? har har har)

I don't think trying to start a fight is the right idea, but this is a frivolous lawsuit at best, especially due to them not selling defenders for over 13 years in this country...

bingo...

If you fight, even though you are right. It will cost you a small fortune and a lot of wasted time.

But here is the good thing... we don't need to worry about them coming after D-90... I wish I could say the same for LRO and LRRF...

Dan these are very cool but I need to get away from referencing even the word "rover" as they have that patented as well. Seems rediculous.

I like to think that theres a big difference in that enthusiast/club sites are promoting the love we have for the brand rather than seen as competing in business with the parent corp.

Maybe I am confused because of all the green cocks I have been drawing but how can Jeff's not be considered trademark infringement as well?

PLus if you import other brand why even limit yourself this time around.

Tagline - Dividing Creek Imports - The import specialist since (insert date here)

I would say those logos are not clear enough. All of us know that the first word is "Dividing" but someone not familiar with the name wouldn't be able to decipher that.

I agree.
It can probably be tweaked if Doug likes it enough to persue further. I tried to keep the defender "accurate" but small enough to not overpower the rest of the design. The "i v i" in Dividing is tough to work out from tire/skidplate/tire. The solution may be as simple as adding the URL in small type below "www.dividingcreekimports.com"

I like the other designs as well. I would be cautious using the green oval in the logo design as it would cause further legal action from Land Rover. It would be a costly legal battle to say the least.

I am not sure who would go after you first with that - RJR Reynolds or Land Rover.

One of my clients has legal copy three lines long 6pt font size in everything direct mail, print, point of sale, web page, eblast, etc... Makes designing around sometimes difficult. They spend millions to protect their interests.

One time we did a print ad that had a model holding a yellow picture frame. Sure enough, National Geographic sent a letter to our company to cease and desist. We pulled all future insertions of that creative, even though it was such a far reach and gray area. I guess it's not worth it to butt heads with someones "identity"

Corporate paranoia!
