"New Defender"

I sent an email to Land Rover requesting they redesign the new Defender and keep it's heritage and also import the "new Defender" here to the US. I know it seems like a crazy idea but I figured nothing lost by letting them know my thoughts. I have pasted their response below. I figure like anything, if the feedback was there and I'm sure I'm not alone they might listen.

Thank you for contacting the Land Rover Customer Relationship Center.

We appreciate your enthusiasm regarding this vehicle. Land Rover does not have any plans to re-introduce the Defender into the United States. This model requires several design and performance changes in order to be compliant with strict U.S. safety and emissions standards. We will forward your comments to Product Development.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-637-6837, option 9, or by e-mail.

Regards,

Klaudia Czeszkiewicz

Maybe this will shut everyone up.

I'd like a 2011 Defender as much as anyone else; but it ain't gonna happen. Not in '11. Not in '14 either.

Meh, no company is going to release product development details that way.

If she were to say "YES... in 2014 you can haz Defender!" it would reveal that they were planning a new model release.

We won't know for sure until they reveal it in a press release or at an auto show. Until then, this was the same party line that we have gotten since 1998, and will continue to get.

A recent study has shown that playing beer pong contributes to the
spread of mono and the flu. Yeah, if you suck at it.

Most of my parts boxes say "made in Poland" these days.

I like the fuel you are using here. Seriously though, my intention was to let them know a consumers thoughts. I own 3 Land Rovers. A 97 D-90, 06 RRS, and a 07 LR3. I think if LR heard from enough consumers they would listen or at least be influenced. Not everyone wants a hybrid or a turbo charged 4 cylinder.

Okay, I heard from a LR dealer guide that just got back from a LRNA meeting in California.

(prepare a large grain of salt)

We will get 90's, 110's and a 'crew cab' (130??) in 2014. The 90's will be offered with hard and soft tops.

I can only say that this guy is a guide at one of the Atlanta LR dealers. So this could be legit or complete bullshit.

It is all back to "I'll believe it when I see It ! ! !" 2014 huh? aren't they stopping the current manufacturing line for the Defender platform anyway?

In the mean time, back to our regular scheduled channel of scrounging of older vehilces and parts and wrench turning and piles of rust on the garage floor and THANKING the Good Lord that we can at least do THAT ! ! !

Was that tooo synical?

How are they going to retrofit airbags into the current design? What about pedestrian safety/the front end? Look where LR is going with the evoque if we happen to get a new D90, it will be fj cruiser-esque.

If the pedestrian is down on the ground, he/she is pretty safe. A few months ago some dude two cars in front my me smacked a deer (hard enough that I saw it dead later that night), it got up for a second and then fell back over right between my two front wheels as I continued to drive. Thing was kicking like this
