New D90 owner!

Hey everyone. This is my first official post in a discussion section. Yup, you got it, I'm the official FNG. I'm out in California and just purchased my D90 from back east. In fact, the car hauler carrying it just arrived in CA today!

Although I had been a Jeep owner for over a decade, I had been waiting for the day when I'd finally have a Landy of my own. Both my father and grand father drove Series IIs and I'm happy to finally be able to share this with them.

I just wanted to reach out, say hello and introduce myself. I've been spending a ton of time digging through threads and learning as much as I can. Looking forward to chatting and learning for you guys!

Bani

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to post some pictures just as soon as I can. I'm in the bay area and my truck is currently sitting in a transporter lot in southern California. I should be able to get some photos up this weekend once it arrives at its new home.

Here you go, as promised. They're not the best photos but I'll try to get more shots as I continue working on her. I've got a good amount of work ahead of me. My initial to do list includes:
1. oil change ( Planning to use Mobile 1 15w40)
2. transfer case service (Mobile 1 75w90 gear oil)
3. transmission service (redline MTL) (check out the shavings on the plug! Should I be concerned about this?)
4. diff service (Mobile 1 75w90)
5. brake job (Any tips on where to get good replacement pads and rotors?)
6. radiator flush
7. soft top replacement (thanks to everyone who has been helping me with my hunt for a replacement top!)
8. replace rusted hardware (door hinges, bolts, screws, etc)
9. replace oil lines (picked this up from you all. Thanks for the tip)
10. refurbish front seats.
...and the list grows as I continue wrenching away.

The photos below are from my family's shop. Fortunate enough to have family that is willing to let my truck squat there for a while as I finish working on it. Thought I'd throw in a photo of my dad's Land Rover as well. He's the one that got me into it after all. He loves working on these trucks even more than I do. He took the engine out just to clean the engine bay up a bit more.

You list "redline MTL". Do you know which transmission you have?

I'm also curious what others have to say about the filings on the transmission plug.

Mike.

I've got the R380. Redline MTL seems to be popular among others in the forum. There are various opinions on which fluid is best but I decided to go with this mix and see how things go.

Move oil cooler lines up the list. Aside from that, it looks good! You may have said it in another thread, but what happened to that top? It looks like it just disintegrated into thrashed strips of fabric. You probably have enough material left to make a bikini for your truck out of it.

Congrats Bani, welcome to the madness..

I wouldn't be too worried about the drain plug. dust like that is normal, especially if the oil hasn't been changed for a long time.. It's when you find metal chunks, then you start to worry a bit.
Pull those floormats up and let the footwells breathe a bit.. On mine at least, the stock rover floor mats with the foam backing used to seemingly produce moisture, like they were designed to create rust.

how many miles on the truck? Have you driven it yet?

Surf Taco sticker says it must have come from here in NJ and some of us might have seen it around before.

Congrats on the purchase - judging by your dad's Series it looks like that yellow NAS is in a good family/hands.

Good, welcome I hope you like your new land rover. How long have you been working on the series truck?

Which fluid, gear lube or ATF?

I am also a new D-90 owner. I've acquired several manuals both paper and electronic.

I just looked in my PDF copy of the "R380 Manual Gearbox Overhaul Manual." It lists the fluid as "ATF M2C33 F or G"

Is that not automatic transmission fluid? I've found the same thing listed for the LT77.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Mike.
