New D90 Buyer - Advice?

Hello all, and let me introduce myself. I am a Texas resident and purchasing a 1994 D90 (130k miles) next week. Since this is my first Land Rover, let alone a Defender owner, I am looking for advice from y'all.

Thanks!
William

Welcome to the forums William.

Do your best to search the site for questions you have and if you still can't find the info, post on an existing thread or start a new one if nothing matches. Read the stickys on each forum as well to understand the rules and you should be fine.

If you are not sure about the purchase, ask away with specific questions, otherwise congrats!

Seek someone out in your area that has experience with Rovers. When you find one, ask if they could take a look at it. Or find an independent shop that will do a check on it. That should cost about $100 but well worth it if they find something major.

And Geaux Tigers!

And all this time I've always seen all the SEC get along with one another. Except for A&M.
Hell, I even rooted for you guys against UT Longhorns last year.

Check head gaskets for leaking and inside the oil filler cap for baked on oil. Tapping noise could be a bad lifter, rocker, or worse yet a slipped liner.

Well it sounds like it's too late for advice as you say you're buying it next week...there is alot that can go wrong with your purchase and if you're not familiar with the "all bad" of this type of purchase you need an expert.

Take it to Alan at North Texas Rover he has a shop in your area. Do this before you buy...hope is a terrible strategy. Good Luck and welcome!!

When somebody wants something so bad that they can taste it, they tend to make hasty and bad decisions.
I wanted a white Range Rover bad enough to fly down to Florida to buy it. Saw too many things wrong. Passed on it. Found a limited edition Westminster. Knowing it had a leaky head gasket I bought it. My regret is it's black. And in Texas, that makes for a very hot ride. The gasket was the easy part.

X2. Alan is a good guy and will shoot straight with you.

Daryl is who I have used for a few things... He's got a shop in lewisville - Oliver's Automotive.

There is a group of us that occasionally get together for breakfast in Dallas. I'll PM you regarding the next one.

Welcome!

1. Change out the oil cooler lines if they have not already been replaced.
2. Do a full fluids service:
a. LT77 or R380
b. LT230
c. Left and right swivel balls
d. front and rear axles
e. power steering
f. brake fluid
g. clutch fluid
h. engine oil

Hope you found it for a good price...others here will be very, very jealous (some in a very bad way) if you did!

I would have at least flown out there to have a look before jumping in.
I packed a bag for a road trip and flew to a couple of places to do my own inspection. I passed on several of them.
Of course, the one I settled on was nearly the furthest away and during a time of year when road conditions were the most challenging.
