Not a diesel or a BMW follower, but I've never noticed stock numbers like this:

BMW makes good engines. Back in the day, companies like Honda and Ford bought them to reverse engineer.

All manufactures basically sell their vehicles to each other at dirt cheap prices. People in the trade get to buy them at huge discounts. Unfortunately most US manufactures are still reverse engineering 80's European cars ...
