One of the dumbest ads I have seen. Talk about opening yourself to liability. Hope the guy has the brains to pull it and sell it as parts.

It's one thing to rebuild a truck as something else, but robbing it of its VIN and selling it as a mostly complete truck claiming it can still be registered is pretty shady.

In fairness to the seller, he is clear that there is no title or VIN.

Fairness? That's the worst part. He is saying hey, I'm just keeping the VIN for something else.

I'm fully aware people restore trucks using all new parts. You can build anything you want. Common sense says you don't pull the VIN and sell the entire truck as one piece. Especially a truck in this nice shape. What argument is there for a restoration of a truck that is this nice?

Hell I can see a person buying it and then arguing that they deserve the VIN and suing him as they bought the complete truck.

Appreciate the comments. Will relist under the "parts" category and not the vehicle category. Thought I was pretty clear that it has no VIN, no title, no ID tag on the rear, and would make for a parts donor for a ROW restoration. I am not claiming that anyone can register this truck as is, in fact, I am stating just the opposite. If your state allows for "special construction" vehicles as we see with Clay's black SVX, then by all means use it as a starting point. Otherwise, pull everything you want for LHD conversion, dash, NAS AC, NAS bulkhead, SD underbody mounts, NAS tub, swing away tire carrier, disc axles...

Looks like the eBay listing was pulled.

He kept the roll cage, VIN and spare carrier.

I believe you can actually can get your own VIN for "special construction" vehicles. The process and criteria for what is eligible varies by state.

Have a look at this one:

Follow up: talked to the owner and he has zero interest in selling. A shame as its on its way out and is really only a Defender in spirit.

This reminds me....one of my FB buddies bought a *neglected* '97 NAS SW last week in the hills of WestByGodVirginia. Some of you guys saw it.
It was wrecked lightly in the front end back in '08 and never fixed.
Stored in a garage since.
He put a new battery in it, reset the inertia switch, and DROVE it onto the trailer.

For.......$7500.

It'll sit there until it sinks into the ground . . . They always say: "I'll restore it one day"
But he never will.

more sad is, they have a shed they could park it under at least to get it out of the daily weather abuse.
