So today I was all set to start repairing the rear cargo floor of the RRC. It had two rust holes that I cut out yesterday, with the idea of repairing it today...done.
All was going well, I had the panels cut and laid down a bead of panel sealer then put the panel on top and started welding. NOW...I am a learner when it comes to mig welding, but figured this would be a good chance to learn.
One of the patches was over the gas tank filler neck, so I stuffed some rags between the filler neck and the floor boards to stop heat. Yep...you know where we are going.....
Away I welded....I was only doing spot welds. Not seaming it. Well I guess I didn't read the seamer warnings...the shit is flammable!!!!
Yep - one spot weld, two spot welds and up she went. Luckily of course I had a water container and a fire extinguisher at the ready. Didn't need the extinguisher....but had to go change my underwear!!!!
A fire over the top of the gas tank was something that really made me scramble.
Anyway - finished it up fine - but jeez!
