Natl Rally date changed

The Natl Rally dates have been changed from mid June to the first weekend in October due to a Johnny Depp movie being shot @ Moab in June and there are no hotel rooms available. Guess I'm going to miss MAR for the first time in decades

I am so glad they changed it as it would have been way too hot at that time of year in Moab. When they said June I was going to skip the rally this year.

x2 Sounds like a plan. It would probably be cheaper overall (at least for the V-8-ers). 2094 miles each way at ~ 13mpg at $3.90/gal = $1256 in fuel!!!

Cripes I was just talking about this with jefferson....October is out for me with work, total bummer. Probably next year would be better from my end anyhow, but it is one of the things to check off the list.

Sounds about right on the cost estimate. I spent $1500 or fuel two years ago, but that was with a Dodge pickup running diesel and averaging 10.5mpg round trip. On the plus side we were pulling a two vehicle trailer so we got two rigs out there and back for that price.

Total trip cost, including the fuel, was around $2500 each. That covered fuel, hotels, food and most imprtant of all Beer. Take your own beer. Utah only has that 3.2 stuff on tap.

That is awesome... looking forward to the trip!

I am shipping my truck out there and back...I would be willing to team up with a group on the East Coast to fill a carrier and get discounted shipping.

In all seriousness, we can easily make this happen. I guarantee we could have enough trucks to make it worth while and perhaps the same cost as driving. Fly in to Grand Junction, CO, meet the truck, and drive the final 130 miles to Moab.

If the Nat'l Rally is now Oct 2-7, what are the dates for MAR? Was this announced at the meeting last weekend?

Don't quote me, but MAR I believe is always that first weekend in October...in this case 10/4-10/7. We'll see if that has or will be changed.

Yeah, but all it requires is you adding an event - it's user-driven content.

Do most people stay in hotels or does a tent city spring up somewhere?

I've only been there the one time, two years ago. There were too many people there to have one central place to stay. Folks were spread out among hotels and campground all over town. We picked a place centrally located in town so at the end of the day we could park the trucks and walk/crawl from bar to bar.
