NASA Wallops Launch Viewing

Hey VA and DMV folks,

Looks like next week there's going to be the first really big, night launch in a long time out of Wallops Field in VA. It's an Antares rocket on an ISS resupply mission.

Has anyone gone to a viewing? IF so, would love advice on best viewing spots. I'm not sure if you can drive on the beach there, but that'd be a super bonus.

This map isn't SUPER clear on where you can watch from, outside of their designated viewing stands:

Wallops is a hard location to get to...period.

But you can see the rocket launches from clear across the state if the weather is clear.

I'm in the valley and I've seen a Wallops launch from my house.

yeah, but i wanna see one of these monster rockets from up close. At least before these things become super run of the mill and Elon's launching rockets once a week.

Oh yeah, it'd be kinda neat.....I've never been to Wallops since I've seen Space Shuttles launch from Kennedy---I thought it would be a let down....

You should do it!

An acquaintance was there when this happened...

I just happened to be on the bay bridge tunnel for work on the last launch that went without a hitch. I could see it clear as day, but nothing like watching a shuttle off the NASA roof in Florida (yeah, I was in Space Camp as a kid for a launch week, it was amazing, and I'm a huge geek).

Looks like Wright's Seafood Restaurant is close and over the water. I'd just swing in to their parking lot unless you want to be super close, and I'm not sure you could get much closer.
