Question: If you could only get 5 pictures of a Defender to evaluate for purchase.... what would you want to see?

Bulkhead, floor pans, rear crossmember front and rear quarter shots...

Good question.

1. From the ground, about four feet away (think 45 degree angle to sill), with the driver-side door open half way. Should be able to see large portions of the chassis, beneath door, maybe even a bit of the headliner and the rat-king of loose wires I see far too often dangling beneath the dash on car ads.

2. Same... passenger side.

3. Full on butt shot.

4. Wide angle interior shot from behind front seats looking downward, with seat cushions, seat box covers, and floor mats removed.

5. Engine bay from above.

Everything else is either easily detailed in writing (I know what an odometer looks like) or is fairly replaceable if need be (steering components, cosmetic details, etc.).

If you can only show me five photos of a truck, they better tell me what a hundred more would only confirm.

Driveway shot, a shot of the tires (with a quarter in the tread), seats, odometer (cause they are always correct) and rear shot so I can see what kind of bumper stickers it has on it. Because if it has a bunch of "coexist, why can't we all get along, make hugs not bombs" bullshit on the back I'm out!

What's wrong with a coexist sticker? ;-)

My 1995 NAS SW just sold (at auction) for $45k. It had 132k miles on it and had minimal rust. I am sure most have seen the thread in the "for sale" section.

$45k is exactly what I would have expected to get had I sold it via this forum on Autotrader, etc. I see folks asking $50k, or $60k for trucks with higher mileage, huge lifts, and rust .... but it seems like those trucks stay on the market for a very long time.

NAS 90 ST will be the rarest of all trucks when all is said and done. IMO, FWIW...

Well... 1995 ST is the most desirable. Makes sense.

Is it really all that loco? Probably not much different once all in at ECR. If this truck truly is on 6k original miles i spend it here first.

Some reason I think this truck was repainted but I can't remember the story fully.

I mean... $128k for a $30k (originally) truck is pretty nutty... I understand rarity, condition etc but it is still pretty crazy.

I have the same reaction when I see Toyota Supra, Porsche 911 that are priced the same way.

On an aside anyone know of other cars made since lets say 1990 that have appreciated in value compared to there original MSRP? (excluding exotics)

1. Defender (90 and 110)
2. Toyota Supra
3. Porsche 911
4. Integra Type R? (Maybe?)

I could see very clean low mileage Lancer Evo MR or RS and Subaru STI maybe doing it in the future...
