Of course the Cobras sat for 2 years on the sales floor much like Defenders. I have built and wheeled these Defenders for decades- would I trade the memories and friends made to have my new '94 or '97 now? Not likely. At this end of the spectrum the reality cars/money/etc come and go, but the experiences are priceless. However, should you get enjoyment form walking in the garage and seeing it everyday and fantasize about traveling the globe, so be it! Lastly, my custom paint & leather to sample 911 Turbo from '89 would be sweet to just sit in and play videos of what we did together!! Ah, the memories!! But most of those memories come from solo one races and hill climbs and, well you get it -or not, at this point...
Dale, Check out this letter my Dad recently showed me....

I rode in and drove Jackie Treehorn's 110 and it was a real real nice truck.

If you recall, it was a good story as well. Jackie imported it from a great guy in the UK that he because friends with for a very reasonable price. He then had ECR put on the cage, new sides & flat roof. Jackie did a lot of good work on it himself and also had others work on it as well. He managed to find an NAS 110 basket, etc. The new owner drove it from Mass out west to Jackson hole I think? All around it was solid. I imagine that truck would have sold for more now.

Did Perentie make a 90? If so get another one of those. I bet that Isuzu makes for a way better engine off road than the 3.9 V8.

Mine was just like any other car loan.
So, what you said + proof of employment, insurance, etc. My CU ran carfax, needed odometer reading on the PO (even though title says exempt due to age).

That was my Uncle's Mercedes. He bought a Gullwing for about $4000 around 1960. I think he sold it 10 years ago.

My Dad bought a Facel Vega new, from the Paris auto show when he was stationed in France. He still has it!

Instead of buying the Ferrari mentioned in that letter, he bought a 66 Mustang convertible.

I'm just happy to have a toy to play with that isn't depreciating. Worth it's weight in gold.

yaaaas! thank you man!
I do indeed miss that beast.
I'm still awaiting a status update from gliderking on the Great Basin Rover axle and locker upgrade.

To your point though, I definitely see paying a premium for a well-sorted and legit TD5. That would be the direction I'd go next. That said, I have a new appreciation for no-apologies NAS 90s.

It is very nice off-road, much nicer than the 2.25p in the 88. They only did 110 4x4 and 6x6 no 90/130 unfortunately!

I bought my clean titled NAS D90 a few years ago for $18k ... Insane. Still wondering why I sold that one. Live and learn. Definitely enjoying my brand new 4Runner trail with a 7 year warrenty that cost half a d90 these days. But still drool every time I see a 90.

I've been traveling through time for 40 plus years ... To be honest it's not as exciting as you might think.
