On LR4x4 today, a chap who works over in the middle east spied a brand spanking new 2008 2.4 TDCi defender in his companies workshop, with just 40km on it, having the engine & box removed and a JE 5.2 v8 and Ashcroft R380 installed.

too much money! LOL!

I don't think many Mainers would go for that kind of tile floor.
Wouldn't go well with all the road salt!!

Is that one of the two Mercedes G500 G-Wagons that Carey told me you were putting Unimog axles in this week?

I have to take a 110 to Copley on Monday, I'll have to swing by to check those out.

A facinating thing ...

What fascinates me is how those trucks travel the world and keep on chugging along. It feels like each truck has a story of itself and moving from one owner to the other it seems it gets interesting more and more. And the fact that they usually last forever if when well taken care of I feel like my truck is just doing one part of its life with me and someday will move to another owner add some more adventures to its pedigree. Pretty cool !

Sorry ! Got carried away !

Happy holidays everybody !

Pat

Looks familiar! I'm currently on a long-term assignment in Dubai and I've been scouring the place looking for a Defender. I actually thought about buying that one and then bringing back to the states with me in 2 years, but the owner was asking US prices at about US$20,500. Newer Gulf spec defenders can be found for less than that.

Yeah, gas is about $1.60/gal here whereas diesel is almost $5.00/gal. the high price of diesel has something to do with Dubai not having it's own diesel refinery and therefore they have to import it from neighboring Emirate Abu Dhabi.

also, I think gas might be subsidized by the government. Water sure is!! a liter of local spring water/ro water is about 50 cents. big surprise for the desert.

I always hate seeing these things leave America. While I believe anyone should be free to do as they please with their possessions, I just hate the idea of there being even fewer D90's in America, while D90's are still readily available new elsewhere. Maybe i'm just selfish, but there are already so few.
