Nantucket advice

Dear roveristas, I am going to Boston on a business trip next month, and this time I must fulfill the need to see Nantucket. Blame it on Herman Melville.

I've seen a lot of you are very Nantucket-savvy, so I thought I ask: What is the best (cheap) way to spend a day there? My schedule won't allow for an overnight stay. Should I rent a car and drive, take a bus, a train, a sled? Once there, how to spend a few hours?

Thanks in advance!

Take the ferry. Years ago you could get a cheap flight from Boston (remember PBA?) but I don't think that's the case anymore.

Cape Air out out of Boston Logan, little puddle jumper but you can fly direct into ACK (Nantucket)

With your time constraints - and the fact that I don't think there even is a ferry from Boston to Nantucket - just fly there and back.

We fly in (but that's from NYC), then take a ferry out to Hyannis and drive back with friends. Gets you there nice and quick, and let's you reminisce as you leave.

Flying from Boston is the most time efficient, but it may be a bit pricey. Taking the ferry will be tough on timing. It is probably 2 hours from the Boston to the ferry and then another hour on the fast ferry. You can rent a car at the Nantucket airport and drive around the island. I am in Nantucket this week and the weather is starting to get nice.

Thanks a lot, folks. Checking prices with Capeair now.

Darn, their booking page seems to be down. Will try again later.
