Museum of the Marine Corps Restoration Shop Visit

Got a chance to visit the Museum of the Marine Corps Restoration Shop today. Pretty amazing what they are doing. They are currently on a 3 year project restoring an SBD3 rivet by rivet. The plane was pulled out of Lake Michigan in 1991, and is now in a million pieces getting a new lease on life. Despite a future of sitting in the museum, they do a full restoration.

Also got to see they future projects: F-4 Phantom #3, EF10, an early CH-53, and the Roebling WWII alligator prototype.

Their shop facilities had everything to rebuild anything, with a staff of just 8.

And if you thought Rovers had a lot of rivets, check out the bins of rivets that go to the SBD!
