Moving Dilemma

So many of you know I am currently stationed in Japan, and some know that SafariHP is building me my dream NAS90 to 110 conversion.

I just found out that I was offered command of a unit in Hawaii - I'd be moving this summer to Oahu for 3 years.

My dilemma is whether to ship the new truck over and subject it to the ocean climate for three years, not to mention the boat ride both ways, and the cross country motor transport. The truck is galvanized, zinc plated, line-x'd, and freshly painted. Will three years on Oahu really kill my truck?

So the options are to continue to store the truck in the US, sell it, or ship it.

Then I have to figure out what to do with Wolf Fabrication....

If we're voting, I'd say Hawaii is a great place for a Stephen super build. But literally no clue on how much that would cost to get it there. And back.

Do it and take the truck. You only have a small amount of time to enjoy things...the 110 you built to use. Enjoy it! good luck!!

I would rather help pay for the shipping out of my taxes, than pay some bum living off of welfare

^^^

definitely ship it there if you can, life is way too short. you're getting your dream truck built so enjoy it. waxoyl it, por-15 it, do what you need to do to protect it, but you'll be glad you shipped it there. imagine all the volcanoes you can outrun with your 110... (ok not really volcanic ash in the pic but you get the idea)

My RR Hunter was previously on a base in Hawaii for a year or two.
It is still rust free.
Take the truck.

Yes definitely take it. I was having withdrawal not driving mine for like 2-3 months during salt/winter season...no way I'd last years.

Congrats on the Command!

My vote: Ship it, drive it, love it! You can keep a vehicle rust free in Hawaii. Obviously parking beachside with an off shore breeze isn't advisable, but it's probably easier to stay rust free in Hawaii than it is in the N.E.! In Hawaii, the sun and the dirt are the issues. Just stay up on the washing and you'll be perfectly fine.

I've shipped three vehicles to Maui. I might be able to get you a good quote as well. I have a family connection at Matson. If you'd like me to look into it shoot me a pm.

It a truck, not the Mona Lisa. Ship it, drive it, envoy it and ship it back to the mainland when you come home.

My 90 lived in HI for a couple years, previous owner was stationed there. It shows no side effects of the area. Enjoy it in that beautiful state, get some great pics, and have fun!

Aren't you doing a galvy chassis on it, and mostly new parts? I would protect what you can and drive it there. I can't imagine having that great of a truck and knowing you can't drive it for another 3 years.

Or secondly, look for a D90 in Hawaii(there's plenty), buy it, sell it after 3 years there or CONUS.

Ship it and drive the shit out of it. It's a Defender, not a 1961 Ferrari 250GT California....less than a hundred were made...

What everyone else said, ship it and wheel it. Life is waaay too short and fragile not to. Besides, the salt air in Hawaii is probably no worse than near the beach in Florida and better than the NE. Just no running down the beach like you are in an Outback Steakhouse commercial and you will be fine.
