Take it, drive it, enjoy it. I had similar issues drive it and and it deteriorates or drive it and enjoy it cause life is too short. I have decided on the latter. So I protect it as much as I can and I drive it.

Congrats!

^^^^^x10

I drove my 130 a bunch this winter in New Englans (which is the shittiest place for a rig in the world with the salt etc). Also washed it frequently and took care of it. Biggest issue will be if you are beach driving and put it in salt water. Suspect that's not on the agenda. Protect from sun and salt and enjoy the crap out of it.

Just make sure it has surfboard racks before it leaves Safari HP.

Nothing is worse than the conditions on Nantucket and there are a bunch up there. And HI doesn't need to salt the roads which I think can be way worse than salt air. Will you be right near the ocean? We are a couple of miles in from the ocean and I don't think it has much of an effect on our vehicles.

and less than 42 still exist

On another note, as everyone has unanimously said, is...... TAKE THE TRUCK. Defenders were built to do important things. Right now, that thing is making sure that a soldier protecting us has the time of his life in Hawaii. One life, live it.

I can appreciate Hawaii from it's strategic location...but beauty or not I would never voluntarily live on an active volcanic island chain, unless I had a jet helicopter...

Anyone know emissions/safety regs for older vehicles in HI? It's a '94 with a 300tdi.

The truck is galvanized, zinc plated, line-x'd, and freshly painted.

Are you fucking kidding me Jonathon??? You are putting more thought into this than any Land Rover technician, or designer EVER!!

You have the opportunity to live in HI for 3yrs - with a truck built for WADING in saltwater...holy crap [used the lords name in vain] get a life meathead....get outta Japan and go to the most beautiful spot in the world, enjoy it - eat a ton or two of Poke, drink great beers, eat Pineapple, get island sick and then get deployed elsewere.

If I need to say anymore I will come over to Tokyo and beat your Marine arse with a broomstick.

[Rant Over]

Hawaiian state regs are just a fast and loose racket. Plenty of veggie burning hippies there. Safety stickers are issued from licensed garages. That's it. My guy there used to not even inspect it, but rather ask, " did you drive it here? Well then it must be safe!" ;-) Well, that's Maui. Oahu could be a different animal as HNL is the 8th largest city in the U.S. So they may have different rules just the way Portland, Oregon has smog regs and Eugene doesn't.

Stop the madness, everyone knows that active volcanos are attracted to zinc, you will need more then a tdi to out run them. I was at Safari last week visiting my Rover. I must have seen your truck. Steven and his crew do nice work. I have a solution to your problem, I will store your truck in my secret underground bunker, I will keep it clean, and will start it up every two weeks and drive it around just to make sure it stays in good shape. Nevermind, ship it to the big island and drive the hell out of it. Enjoy it, you deserve it,
Thank you for your service to our country,

I assumed he was going to Oahu. Extinct volcanoes. Maui=Dormant. Hawaii (the Big Island) one extinct, one dormant, one active.

Seems like everyone is saying to take it... So I'm gonna say not to take it.. Have you any idea how bad that thing will rust in Hawaii .. You'll never be able to stop the cancer in it, it will rust while you are watching it.. And then continue to rust after that... You have put sooo much money into it..don't chance having it rust away...3 years ain't that long to wait..you've waited 40+ years for this truck... Another 3 ain't gonna kill ya...
