I don't think they have really made a design decision yet. It states they have signed off, but that could mean anything. It could mean they signed off on moving forward with a new desgin.

In the article it states "JLR has, so far, succeeded in keeping the wraps on the likely styling and the engineering make-up of the new Defender. However, we do know that the styling of the new car has already been signed off.

The styling theme for the new model is thought to have been given the green light during the summer. However, a sneak preview in the form of a concept car is currently being discussed"

The presented image is very very similar to the DC100 concept that was met with mostly negative reviews, and has a few changes to it.
I think that JLR/Tata would keep the real design under hat until definite decisions are made.
THe article still is quite vague, but mentions lack of important design components such as chassis and cabin. They seem undecided on that. If this be the case I don't think they would release a concept image yet.

Never the less. I like it. I liked the design of the DC100 as well.

"...it will come with the new Ingenium four-cylinder turbocharged diesel and petrol engines as well as V6 engines"

Ingenium? - really? I mean, seriously? Did they write that with a straight face?

Looks like the best Defender concept to date. But to emphasize "utility" and differentiate from the RR platforms, change the grill similar to the treatment the big three does with their 1-ton trucks.

Change is good...there is a market for everything. I'm sure the original was criticized also...

I wonder if some of the potential buyers for a completely restored Defender or (90 to 110 conversion) will now be inclined to just buy a brand new 2016 Defender instead.

Yes they did invent that name. Have to love the marketing boys ingenuity!

Actually no. When the 90/110 were introduced there were huge waiting lists. If read the articles from back then, some people complained about the engine options, but it was very well received.

The photo means nothing. It was not from Land Rover. It was something pulled from the air by Autoblog.

Absolutely, in the same way that people who loved the corvettes from their childhood buy brand new variants.

They also usually have that corvette from their childhood under cover in their garage, only driving it to shows on sunday...

Defenders will eventually join that pantheon of cars that owning a new model gives you the itch for the old, at least in my opinion.

How many guys bought a series after they bought a NAS?

Look what happened when the FJcruiser came out. I was at a traffic light in a FJ45troopie and the yuppie couple beside me in their FJ cruiser barely glanced.

The same would happen with a new Defender. Thousands of them would be on the roads with 90% of drivers having no clue of the heritage.

I believe there would be an even bigger surge for old school Rovers as it did with FJ40s reaching high dollars

Regardless of how legit it is, that's the best concept drawing I've seen. Not crazy of the face, but the rest makes up for it.

I can't wait. I'm hopeful, optimistic, and think under Tata it could be done/cool. I like the Evoque. For the brand to continue they needed that sort of model and I think it crushed the look. A modern diesel variant of the d110 would certainly draw my eye and I would be stoked if it could be tough. Or ordered as a tough variant. Crap, it just has to get close to have me consider it.... Please get close!!! I figure I can always modify it....I bleed a bit of green....

That is the most defender-ish looking concept drawing yet. I don't care who drew it, I wouldn't kick it out of the driveway.
