I saw one a month ago. Other than coolness of rear doors the thing was terrible looking.

Do not get it. Have about 3,000 miles in my father's Model S, and I do not get it. Build quality and interior quality suits a $45,000 car. Starting price on the X of $100,000 is cracker crazy.

The rear doors are downright stupid and unnecessary gimmick.

With the mandate for every manufacturer to produce electric vehicles, it would seem to be a death knell for Tesla, as they cannot build enough cars now let alone five years from now. They will likely not be able to compete with offerings from the major manufacturers who can afford to lose money. If Hyundai puts out an electric Elantra that's built as well as the gas powered one for say $30k, then the Teslas of the world will sit in the showroom.

I don't think Tesla is long on its car manufacturing. It looks like Tesla's cars were to open up the market to the idea of capable and practical EV cars. Now its time to cash in the big bucks by selling batteries to the big manufactures that are jumping on the EV bandwagon.

Elon Musk's goal is not to dominate a market or be the best electric car seller. He is following his passions and visions. He thinks we are destroying this planet so everything he is try to mitigate or neutralize that destruction. Look at Tesla, Solar City and Space X. All those fall in line with those fears and dreams. I think Musk is in between a steve jobs and a henry ford he is disrupting the industry and putting forth quality products that a few years ago we thought were all but fantasy.

Through these companies he is clearing a way and showing that the "impossible" is possible and causing people to think different. Tesla shows that being green, doesn't mean you have to drive the ugliest car on the block, he is making electric cars jump from a niche of society to mainstream and showing innovation and style while doing it. But at the end of the day its not about the money or the tech, its about steering the automotive industry onto a different path.

Not a big fan of the Model X's looks. The doors totally make sense in a tight urban environment though.

I've always thought tesla was just a way to disguise battery R&D for solar city. It was probably easier to pitch new tech for electric cars than new tech for solar powered homes.

The model x looks like the BMW X6 and that's not a compliment.
