Military Style Sun Roof

Is anyone running with one of these? Wondering just how opaque the glass is.

I really liked the idea for a travel truck. Improve airflow but not as much of a security issues as glass.

I wish I would have installed one of those 2 years ago. Instead I installed a glass one - it's way too hot! I ended up having to tint it super dark just to keep the sun out.

Just ordered the last one RDS had in stock! I'll have to wait to install the headliner until it gets here, just to make sure it fits all proper like...

Their proper name is "escape hatch", used on the Marines' winterised hard top rovers, where they can't roll back the canvas roof for beach landings.

not sure if these panels open in the true sunroof fashion.... twisty knob or flip-over lever, or if there's a ring-pull that pulls out the rubber seal and then you smack out the metal panel and climb out.

it's a flip over lever. yeah it's a form not function thing for me. couldn't "escape" with a rack on it anyway...lol. It should be here by the middle of the week and the install is pretty straight forward.

So the escape hatch came today. Even George from RDS said that these are made of metal...I'm not thinking thats the case. It doesnt feel like any metal I know....the density is all wrong. It does flip open, and it does have a button to release the hatch. It's really kind of cool, it has a raised fabric type panel in the interior. If you're going for the Mititary-ish look this is what you want!

I'm going to have photos of it in my Lasalle install post. over the weekend.
