Milemarker has a bit to learn about customer service

Well, that was a rare and unusual situation. I needed to order a new control cable for my winch, and wanted to order the little metal "how to use" plate to rivet onto the bumper next to the winch.

They flat-out refused to sell to me. "I can't sell direct to you, you will have to go to an authorized dealer".

I've never had that happen before where a company would not support their customer or their own product. If I had the money, I'd just go pick up a nice-shiny Warn 8274 and be done with it, but I am close to broke and will have to track down somebody willing to order me the parts.

?? What am I missing?? So buy them from a dealer.

Most manufacturering companys won't sell parts direct as they are not set-up to sell directly to the public. If you want a part for your Rover, do you phone up the head office in the UK and ask for a part??

I don't go to the head UK office, but I can go to Land Rover for many parts and service.

The problem I am having is that most places that sell the winches go through a distributor, and the dealers can't order the parts either since the distributors don't carry them. Which means I have to try to find somebody that orders direct from MileMarker. Every place I've tried so far all say to contact the manufacturer directly.

I've just never had this issue with other auto accessory companies before. Edelbrock, Holley, Mr.Gasket, MSD... they all have some capability to order repair parts straight from the company if needed.

Hans, I got the same thing from Warn when I was trying to fix my old 8K winch. They help me get the part numbers I needed but would not let me buy it from them. It always amazed me that part manufatures did that.

Guys,

It's a choice to go through distribution or sell direct. Those companies use distributors and if they sell direct, they will piss off the distributors. Its simple and a stupid thing to complain about. Just call a distributor, I am sure they will be happy to give you contact info.

Well, from my standpoint of a useless winch with no control cable, it lacks the appearance of being silly. I wouldn't mind so much if I could find a good source for a new one.
