Meeting grandson

Hello to all. A long story short, when I was in high school I got a girl pregnant. We put the child up for adoption. I have met him once and tonight he and his family are coming over. I am really nervous. I get to meet my grandson for the first time.
I really don't know what I am asking from you guys, I guess I needed to just put it out there for the world to see.

I had an aunt go through a situation very similar just a few years ago. It turned out great, the son is a super nice guy with a great wife and two sons.

Congrats on getting to meet your grandson, I'd wager everyone here wishes you the best on building a great relationship with your newly-found family.

Keep us posted!

I'm sure that they are just as nervous! You'll do fine. Just talk about Land Rover and take them all for rides!! Good Luck.

Just be nice and welcoming and let them take the lead on how much involvement they want you to have.

Definitely make it about him and his family... He is going to be more nervous than you. One of my best friends from high school, a girl, when through this same exact thing just after graduation. A year or two ago, her daughter searched for and found her, and they met up... It has been a fantastic experience for both of them.

A similar situation occurred with my colleague (45 year old lady with children) where she was introduced to her biological father for the first time just a few years ago. He looked her up. Now they are running partners and have a strong relationship.

However it works out, congrats and hope the meeting goes well for you.

Bet everyone is as nervous as you. Don't be afraid to admit it. Shows you're human.

You will do fine, you are a great guy and have been presented with a wonderful gift. I too have had a couple friends reach out to their birth parents with mixed results. One did not want to see her child the other did. And while no lasting relationship was formed in the latter case it was still a wonderful and emotionally important meeting for both mother and child. So relax and enjoy your family and let the evening flow naturally as you get to know each other. Also know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Grandpaw Abe- sounds like a character right out a 1960's Sunday night Disney show, or a Walton's Mountain character.

How's your new wife with all of this ?

That is great she is happy about it.

The people who end up getting along these days is often suprising. I know someone who celebrates holidays together with his ex-wife and his current wife (the two get along quite well) so that all the kids can be together.

Thank you all for your kind words and support. Tonight was overwhelming as I really didn't know what to do. Do I spend time talking to my son that I am just getting to know or do I play with the grandson that I just met. I was torn all night. What a great dilemma to have.
