It's also a genious move, a young woman with a rep. as a political outsider, a son in the army, an NRA life member vs. Biden , a poster child for a liberal Beltway insider.

That and they will convert the disenfranchised women voters that wanted a woman on the ticket. Since McCain will probably only be a one term President, she will be poised to compete against Hillary in 2012.

And on top of all these points, who is better than the Alaskan governor to negotiate a compromise between American oil drilling efforts and environmentalists. Seriously didn't see this coming. McCain is playing "A" game now. I think Obama just got spanked.

I can assure you that democratic women will not vote for her, she will just reduce the number of republican women that cross over.

And, she's kinda hot..... Just the way my mind works... Also, I read that her husband is 4 time champion of the Iron Dog snowmobile endurance race, COOL! Seriously though, McCain really pulled a good one there. Kudos!

governor palin started off with great approval ratings here because of her reputation for ethics. that was well received in a state with 6 recently indicted state legislators, 4 already convicted, our us senator has been indicted and is awaiting trial and our lone us house representative is under investigation by the feds and will probably be indicted as well. gov palin is currently in a mini-scandal now which has affected her popularity. she allegedly fired the head of the state troopers because she couldnt pressure him into firing her now ex brother in law, a state trooper who was in a nasty divorce with the govs sister. the trooper in question is no saint and probably should have been fired but he had already gone through a disciplinary process and had been officially reprimanded and the case was closed. there is an independent investigation going on now and early on it doesnt look good.

Really? I'm curious how you can be so sure.

(I have enough trouble understanding the one woman I have, let alone speaking for the entire Democratic female populace.)

good thing hillary isnt running for vp. as far as "negotiating with environmentalists" to allow oil drilling, its the democrats in congress you have to negotiate with for that to happen. realistically a democratic VP would have a far better chance at changing democrats votes than another republican VP.

I can't vote so really have no party affiliation etc. but it seems like a short sighted desperate move that will blow up in his face. If she (Palin) thinks, as she stated, that women will vote for her just because she is a woman she has probably just insulted enough people to tip the scales.

It's not the "everyday" that concerns me but the "someday." McCain is 72 and has had four battles with cancer. It's not a stretch to say that she may have to step in and run the country.

By the way, I am a McCain supporter and contributor and I am very disappointed with this decision. It's going to take some convincing to get me to the polls in November. Of course, Obama will win Maine anyway.

i date one. i can assure you, hes right.

i bet a buddy shed describe it as pandering, it was the second word out of her mouth, behind misogynistic. ida scored points on the newly wed game.

Follow-up Post:

the pick had nothing to do with the democrats. she herself isnt meant to grab center women votes. shes the far right anchor. mccain has to turn out his base before he can attack the middle. he had been failing to do that.

he wasnt resonating with the pro life crowd, the born agains, or the soccer moms. she does all three. none of the guys on the short list were effective. you pick a VP to do, what you fail to do. .

who does he alienate with this? statistically, no one. no one is gonna jumpship and pick obama over this...

what does this free him up to do? attack the center. he can now tilt left for more votes, and point to her when the far hight gets nervous.

will it be effective... um... some pundits are saying to give it a couple days to pan out and see. i think it will take a least 30 to see if it works. you need time for her to get on her message, and for mccain to shift his. if he simply stays right, then this is all a waste. dumbest move ever.

The Vice President presides over the Senate the same way the House Majority Leader presides over the House.
