Luddite question

Fully acknowledge being a luddite so no need to flame me. Looking for technology guidance. Keep getting a popup message on my windows based laptop that my icloud storage is almost full and to do something about it.
Hadn't realized I had even setup an Icloud storage ?
How difficult is it to go in and manage this ?

In Windows, type "icloud" at the Start button and click on the program called "icloud". There is a manage icloud storage button there. That will show you what is stored and where it originates. You can delete it there, but if it comes from an iDevice, it is better to manage the changes on that device.

Do you have an iPhone or iPad or iSomething?

Iphone 6

Did that and it shows I'm over 4 gig of data out of an allowed 5 and what shows is backups that I didn't trigger. I clicked on a delete for the earlier of the two backups and it says are your sure you want to do this as it will cancel automatic back up ?

Like the idea of an auto backup stored on a cloud in the event I loose the phone or it gets destroyed both of which a very real likely hoods so would prefer not to turn that function off ?

for $ .99 per month you can upgrade to a 50 GB plan from Apple. Twelve bucks per year is cheap insurance and will allow you to keep your backups, photos, contacts, etc..........

You have the auto backup to iCloud turned on (on your phone). On the phone, "settings", "iCloud" to adjust settings, if you want.... Make sure "Find My iPhone" is turned on and you have a basic idea how to use it.....

Jason's advice is good, if you want and need a trouble free backup.
