LR3 lower ball joint question
Has anyone replaced the front control arms on an LR3? I'm in the process of doing the wife's and can't seem to separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. The bolt on the ball joint separator just digs into itself. I'm using a breaker bar + 3' pipe but it won't pop. I added some heat and still nothing. I also tried hitting it with a sledge (also w/ heat) and nothing. After all this pressing and banging I was only able to get the ball joint to move about 1/4".
I thought I may have better luck if I removed the lower arm/knuckle out of the car so I removed the lower arm and steering knuckle out as a unit and cut the ball joint in half to have free access to the knuckle. I still can't bang it out even with it on the vise and a straight shot to the stub. I even put it on my shop press overnight and it still hasn't popped.
Does anyone know of any issues removing the joint? If so, I won't spend anymore time on this and will just get a new steering knuckle but wanted to check before spending the $? I still need to do the other side so any insight would be appreciated. I just hope I don't have the same issue doing the other side.
Never mind. It just popped. I hope the other side is easier.
