July 18th, 2015 Update:
Sorry to have gone dark over the past couple of weeks- between moving and cross-country driving, it's been an exciting couple of weeks.
Faced with a $2k auto transport bill, and exceeding the tongue weight limit of my wife's ML320CDI- I took a calculated risk and drove the LR3 East. Fortunately, we made it to our temporary stop in GA with no issue whatsoever. Not interested in rolling the dice twice, we had Bavarian Auto (just over the border in Chattanooga, TN) re-confirm that it was in fact the transfer case (it was), and install a new one- again, from Centurion Differential. Josh was great to work with, and had the t-case sent out same day. Having now made two large purchases from him in the last month, I'd highly recommend him and their 18-month warranty is tough to beat.
Centurion transfer case installed, and with a new front diff two weeks prior- all noises are GONE. It's eerie how quiet the truck is now. I'd always thought the LR3 was quiet before, but it's incredible how much "white noise" drivetrain sounds were in play that I never realized until they were gone. I'll re-attempt to link the recording I have of what a t-case failure sounds like.
Russell/Charles- We could very possibly be making our way back to NoVA. I've got a squadron obligation I need to take care of for the next 2.5 months, so my family is temporarily holding up just outside of Pittsburgh, PA with family, while I finish up. I'd personally love to get back to Arlington- let you know.
