Yes, friend, I know your pain. The last of my dogs are sitting next to me as I type; a 13 yr old Golden and a 11 yr old chocolate Lab. They are the last living dogs of 10 puppies we raised for wheel chair assistance organizations, all the rest have crossed the rainbow bridge. These boys hate off roading so are not the wingman you had, but nonetheless they have shared Land Rover adventures with us.

Three of their predecessors also came back to us for the rest of their lives. The others graduated or were placed with families or persons who still needed trained companions. The graduates, those placed as companions and their people had fulfilling lives as partners.

I too am dreading the day when "its time" comes for Rocky & Oliver, when I help them cross the bridge. It is our ritual that I take them in "when its time" and stay with them for the crossing.

Best wishes for fond memories and perhaps a new companion/wingman someday.

Sorry to hear mate...I am going to be a blithering mess in a year or two when my best friend leaves us to chase rabbits and squirrels in the sky.

Get a nice framed photo, like the one you posted to remind you of all those fun years

Sorry for your loss! Pets are so tough to lose, and dogs aren't just pets! They're our best friends.
I'm lucky I get to work with this girl. Every day. The bond one makes with a working K9 is like none other and hard to explain. I dread the day.........

We lost a member of our family this past week. Oliver, our sixteen and a half year old Cairn Terrier passed away in our arms on Wednesday. Jessica and I brought him home with us back in 1999, when we were in college. He was a scrappy little thing. It's so strange to be home and not hear his collar jingling around. He loved going for rides, especially back when I had my first Defender. He went along with us on all of our camping and wheeling trips back then. Ollie was my wife's and my first "baby" and we miss him very much.....

Very sorry for the loss of your buddy. It does leave a hole in our daily lives when we lose one.

I'm sorry, Will. Went through it in October with my buddy, Bella. Still look for her when I get home from work.

The pain is so intense because the joy was so intense.

Sometime it's harder to lose a pet than a human. Time will heal.
