Lost LR3 key

My key was left on my other cars bumper, it's on the interstate someplace now
What is the most reasonable way to go about getting a new LR3 key fob and key cut without spending $400+ at a LR dealer? Anyone had experience?

Just called local dealer. $530 for new key and programming. Complete joke.

If you find a cheaper option let us know. I have one key to my LR3 and am always so cautious not to misplace it. I've been wanting a spare but refuse to pay that kind of money for a spare key.

Did you check the D3 forum? I made it a habit of stop putting stuff on the rear bumper after I found my favourite coffee mug down the road on my return.

I will say my 3 came with a spare key

Can you get one from a wrecked vehicle and have it programmed?

Just looked. Part number is LR088262. $216 USD from LR Direct. Then you gotta get it programmed and cut.

I'll be doing as much soon as my LR3 only came with one key. I've heard you can't use 2nd hand keys. "Virgin" keys are about that price off Amazon.

I'm going to order a new one from LRDirect soon, and get it cut. I have a GAP tool on order, so I'll be able to program it myself.

Wonder what it would cost to get programed and cut. Is that something the dealer would have to do or could it be done elsewhere?

That sounds like the way to go. I think I can get my local Indy shop to program, but where do you get it cut?

FWIW the GAP IID tool was the single best purchase I made in my 10 years of owning my 06 LR3. I've never had another vehicle that could benefit as much from a user tool, especially with the stealership not updating my ECU/ECM's after a few years in. I purchased a key from the dealer and was able to program using the tool. This was a few years ago and recall having to use the good key to copy the program over to. Either way I used the GAP tool for air suspension, ecu upgrades, and overall monitoring of the vehicle. Purchased from Lucky8, at the time they had the best price in town. Good luck.

Who cut the key? That is the thing I get multiple answers on.

Yep, Brady’s British here in the raleigh area.. comes un-encoded but cut and they do the encoding or with an iid you could. (I believe the key has to be new to encode it)

Dealer cut, or had it cut. I think it came that way from overseas but I cannot recall exactly.

Seems like any local independent locksmith can cut the keys. I got a few quotes for whole new keys, but wasn't sure. I would tap a local guy to do the cutting.

Good news some dealers are more reasonable. Called LR Charlotte they charge $300 for key and $125 to program, basically $100 less than LR Asheville.

Still trying to find best deal. Looks like if you own the gap tool you are a step ahead but dealer and Indy shop both told me LR has to cut the key by VIN.

I can probably do a key for a bit cheaper, might take a couple weeks to get it cut by LRUK, but it'll be cheaper

Zack came through! Should have known!

Now to buy gap tool or have dealer program. Guess it makes sense to buy gap if half the cost of it is what dealer would charge to program...
