Los Angeles Body Shop

I've got a couple of door dings that I want taken out (being SoCal the 90 has gotta be pretty) and can't seem to find a good body shop in LA that's actually worked on a Defender. No, let me rephrase that---I can't seem to find a good body shop in LA that's even seen a Defender. The last place I went was some high end shop with Bentleys and Benzes in the driveway, and the guy doing the estimate asks how all the rivets in the side of the truck got there and if I want those taken out as well. Ummm, next.

Can anyone reccomend a shop in LA that actually knows Defenders?

Just door dings? If it's just dings or dents, take the truck anywhere. You don't need to know anything about a Defender to remove a ding.

Made it further than half of the other guys, but the Hammers won.

Find the cheapest place you can find. As mentioned above it's not like it's rocket science. Flat panels are cake to work on. There are so many waves on a Defender it would be tough to screw it up, unless they make it too flat Try driving around North Hollywood. Lots of small body shops in that area, Vanowen, Magnolia Burbank Blvd are all good streets to look that have lots of small body shops on practicaly every corner.

Good luck

Hmmm, I guess I do baby the truck a little bit. But it is a little more than just door dongs---a few large scratches here and there and a couple other panels that need attention.

I took my old Tahoe (sold) to a cheap place and they did a cheap-looking job. So I'm hoping someone can reccommend a specific shop that they trust.

Thanks

try calling some of the independent LR shops, or even the dealer and ask where they get work done. None of those places do their own body work, not even the dealer.

Avio Coachcraft...

I'm a first-time poster... Though I've read and enjoyed the boards for a couple o' years. Moved to respond to this post because my girlfriend JUST drove my 97 SW thru a red light... A mercedes coupe ran straight into the door... The merc was totaled, the 90 had (drumroll!) a snapped running board and a dented door. So that's why I use it as a daily driver.

For the record, I did ask her if she was okay before I asked about the truck.

Spent a few weeks waiting for parts, then had the body work done at Avio. Not cheap. Not quick. But they do know Defenders. Though they'd clearly much prefer another f'in Bentley. Seriously, I've never seen a bodyshop quite like it. Only in LA, man. But there you have it.

www.aviocoachcraft.com for contact info.

I have used Dent Wizard in Denver for the Disco. I had a nasty ding in the hood where the clamp on the mass air sensor hit the bottom of the hood. They did a great job. Could not tell it happened. Dent Wizard has shops all over the US

Any other recommendations besides Avio? I need some bodywork done on my D90 in the LA area.

I think Autobahn Body & Paint in Hawthorne is supposed to be pretty good. Land Rover South Bay uses them. Give them a call.

I'd honestly worry about my car there, after seeing how they chop stuff up and the idiots they have working there (well at least on the show) I can't imagine the build quality/finished product...
