210. (50 for the 2-piece bellhousing and 80 for the pinion shaft which included labor removing it, plus 80 for shipping).

Don't forget aerodynamics, you're comparing a BMW to a billboard.

For sure, but the South African 2.8i does pretty good and this should get a little better with the double vanos.

Have been curious for a while, but LR never did a LHD version with the 2.8- is there interference or they just didn't pursue it for other markets? The 2.8 110s are great performers and logged many many miles!!

130p before shipping is reasonable! Off to the project drawing board...

There will be an issue with interference from the steering box. Originally I was thinking about making a bracket for the alternator (and possibly the power steering pump) to move it up higher to clear it but now I'm thinking perhaps I can use a steering box that mounts on the outside of the frame rail like one from a P38 Range Rover. If guys can use the P38 unit on a Series truck to convert it to power steering I don't see why I can't retrofit one onto a Defender.

You will run into a problem with the panhard rod bracket on the chassis I have been down this road before!

Hmm, yeah I was looking at that and it does look to be an issue. It will take a little engineering.
