If it makes sense, I would like to connect, maybe we could help each other... I own and run an out-sourced sales company, specializing in Technology.

I am connected. I have a few "connections" too, but can't say it's been a useful tool so far.
However, my wife (currently looking for a job) seems happy with it.

What I don't like about it: I can't create my own "networks". I'd love to have a "Land Rover Buddies" next to my "Family", "friends" and "business" connections.

Jeeze..... send a private message through D-90 source with email address to ask for linked-in connection is painful.... What am I missing?

I've been on Linkedin for a little while now too. Can't say that I've used it for more than just being virtual friends with anyone yet, but I can see how it might be useful in the future.

Feel free to look me up too: michael doligalski

I've been thinking about it, and Facebook, but have a hard time seeing the real value.

How do you actually "use" LinkedIn? I mean, how does one go about turning a LinkedIn account into a job, or a project, or a fruitful business association (asks the business-unwise introvert who's never gotten passed the technology to learn about networking...)

I'm terrible at networking/marketing myself, but think of it as extending "word of mouth" networking that you typically use today. If you trust person A, and see they recommend person B (who I assume they trust), who recommends person C, then (in theory) person C would be worth using/hiring etc.

This of course is predicated on the connections being sincere which I am not convinced is always the case. At the very least people need to be honest about their relationships and differentiate business from friendship and I know this isn't always done.
