Guessing this rig was a burn victim. Flood, burn, double salvage. What would make the trifecta? A rollover like that Israeli 110?

Yeah definitely burn victim - hadn't opened the link. Looks like they used a Buick steering column or something.

I just threw up.

Can we just merge this thread with the hot-dip thread? Drop one in a tank and pay the extra fee for what floats up?

I'm pretty sure there's an aries blue 95 on the bed of barnegat bay somewhere. The house was washed away during the storm.

I remember reading an article about some divers in Switzerland that found a rotted out Type 30 Bugatti at the bottom of a lake. Hauled it up and sold it for 300K or something absurd. I remember the photos.. the gauges were the only thing you could recognize. Wish I had the link.

We recently had an '11 Sport S/C here that some used car dealer bought at auction and brought to us to repair...what a wreck. Rumor has it they bought it for $30k at auction!

Boy did the insurance company see them coming!

So you got a Sandy truck out in IL? I know it's pretty easy to ship vehicles but is sending them out of the NJ/NY area part of the practice?

I don't know, nor do I know which auction it was purchased at, but it was a local used car dealer here in IL that bought it...

I have no idea what happened once they towed it out of here. We told them we'd have to replace the body harness and all the ecu's before we could even begin to do anything else...the headliner even had mold in it! ugh!

Yikes - sounds pretty crappy for $30k - probably good that you guys didn't get into it as I bet it was worse once taken apart.

just to throw it out there I saw a sandy lr4 brand new at my rover shop bought at auction locally here in ca - not running they had my mechanic pull out the entire interior out that was still wet - try and replace some modules to get it running but all the connections were corroded and there is a ton of wiring in that truck bundles along the floor - they did not really want to get involved so he took it across the street to the next rover shop to see what they could do to get it running - I just feel sorry for the sucker he is going to try and flip it on to - they said the auctions for them started at 14000 I dont know what he paid for it

Examples of what parts of a truck that's been sitting in salt water (overnight) look like 6 months later.

Fresh water is not the same issue, but salt water is nasty stuff if left.

As some of you know, my rig took on some Sandy damage. I'm not happy about it but after all I've gone through in the past two years, this isn't going stop me or my love of defenders

Besides replacing/repacking all the fluids/filters in my truck, Chris at Rovertek has/is going over everything that has been touched by salt water. Its a process, but if done right, a defender in it's simplicity will be good as new. Being a more "primative" ROW with a diesel has it's advantages

Some things Chris has addressed in the repair:

New battery/battery box/cutoff switches/cables/wiring
New alternator
New starter
New heater motor
New clutch components
New LED marker lights (waterproof)
All new fuses after soda blasting then cleaning the fuse board
Relocation of all breathers
and more I'm forgetting

Lesson learned: Money isn't everything. Lol.
