Land Rover's New LR3 Marketing Campaign...

What do you think of this?

www.FindYourAQ.com

It's their new marketing campaign for the LR3. Hot off the presses.

This ad campaign speaks volumes of where Land Rover is heading. Land Rover is now one of many providing the SUV as an object helping people outwardly appear to be the person they would like to think they are.

Best 4x4xfar...hardly.

Hey, I only bought my D-90 because I figured it'd make me taller, more handsome, tons of fun, definitely assertive and sporty, with a dose of edgy confidence!

It definitely wasn't for the great mileage and excellent maintenance record!

A friend on mine was in Canada two weeks ago at their launch of the LR3. He called me from the passenger seat of one. I told him everything I had read sounded great and the "spy" photos had me intrigued. Then he indicated what the BASE price was jumping to..... mid to upper $40's. Fully equipped models will be approaching $60 or better. WHY?

LR told me yesterday that prices start at $61,000 for a V8 300bhp LR3. This sounds like relatively good value to me. North American specs are generally higher than in Europe and a full spec V6 diesel there costs near $100,000 Canadian. If (big if) I wanted a 4x4 at 60,000 how culd you consider anything else. And what is the competition. The Touareg and the X5 - the Toureg is probably its nearest competitor but will fail off road - the BMW is more expensive and is even more useless off road. I also reckon it ught to hammer hummer H2 sales, as it beats this heap of crap in all departments, apart from pimpability. (isnt Pimp my ride a great show!). The price jump over the old disco is certainly justified n terms of size, power, refinement, goodies and most other normal criteria.

I can only imagine the price jump is commensurate with all the hot new Ford engineering they've built into the thing...

Joking aside, it looks light-years better than the Disco, and I can only imagine that the technology and features have to just KILL it...

If the HUGE number of new RRs (beginning in the $70K-90K range) out here is any indication, I think that thing will sell like crazy...although it's getting a LONG way away from the roots...

The AQ ad campaign is perhaps clever, but appears to be based on what young creative marketing people desire the buying public to perceive the LR brand to represent.

I could complain that these cascading perceptions result in a diluted, simplistic brand image rooted in fantasy, but really this is just the systematic process by which the intellgence of Americans is underestimated. Someone famously remarked that no one has ever gone broke doing this.

I dont really care what LR makes in the future as long as I can get Defender parts.

oh wow, looks like the LR3 is strategically priced to leave a price void between the Freelander and the LR3. They must be setting things up for their "7 model brand strategy." I wonder what LRNA assumes will fill that gap?

LR 1 the new and up coming defender
LR 2 redisgned freelander, look more like the lexus rx330
LR 3 three models one in the mid 30s with a 275hp V6, then V8 SE and HSE
LR 4 range rover sport
LR 5 range rover with optional 400hp super charged V8, available in spring 05

phillip, the spare is a 18 inch steel, similar to the original Disco 1, four alloys and one steel
current SE freelander comes with a steel spare, 16 inch alloys and 15 inch steel.

Oh and the cayenne, comes with no spare at all and the turbo is close to 100k.
