Ok, so one more question for you guys...this 89 Defender has stamped on the chassis only 8 numbers...the FA455145

It doesnt have the first part of the digits of the VIN stamped on the frame. Anyone ever seen that before?

The foreign registration submitted for importation must have shown a date of first registration of
1990. As we all know cars sit on dealers lots, some longer than others, so while possibly built in 89 may not have sold and been first regsitered until 1990. European registrations do not show model year- they show date of first regsitration. The actual build date is easily gotten in a matter of hours from Motor Heritage Museum @ Gaydon. Rovers vin coding left a good bit to be desired when it came to determining model year, overlap was common, especially in the 80's.
Doug nailed it, and this is especially evident in ex-MOD or other "group buys" (lol) and fleets. My ex-RAF is a 1994, but the first registration, according to LR, is 2000, when it was released to civlian use. Heritage documents are invaluable in this case.

As for SignalMTB, have you titled in FL yet? I would advise to take what you can get, then refer to it as whatever it is titled as.

Never seen that before. 1989 should have the Leyland turbine logo in front and behind the chassis nr, as is always the case when stamped in Solihull at the factory. If it is missing half of the vin on the front leg AND the Leyland logo you are damn lucky the truck cleared....

Does it have the year code on the chassis main beam next to the outrigger ? See pic below ...

there is nothing legit on that VIN number or VIN plate. Sure it was never inspected by customs.

I have been using A build date in writing in the form of an email from Gaydon as proof of age for customs entries for years.

just requested for 8 x 1993 110's. See if I can get them in a few months earlier.

Thanks Doug, I always went for the full certificate. You saved me money and a lot of time. Next beer is on me !
