If I bought the new thing every other year I would owe a lot of people a ton of money... I guess nothing is wrong with it if you really can afford it. Hell, my dads neighbor bought an Audi R8, a Range Rover, a RRS, and then another Carrera S in a period of three months, but he paid cash and has no debt. Not saying you're in debt though, so don't take it that way.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has commented. This has been great entertainment. I don't know Neil, couldn't ID him in a one man line up, but if he has the means to buy 2 cars in one day then good for him. If he is excited and wants to share with his friends here, awesome. Would I have bought that car, probably not but that's why there are 100's of different kinds to choose from. So please let's continue with the Neil bashing bc he can obviously handle himself so let the games resume. As a side note I only own manual cars (except the wife's) but if I lived in LA I'd probably get an auto so that I wouldn't get all lopsided working the clutch in traffic.

------ Follow up post added February 16th, 2012 07:23 PM ------

Ps: Steve Jobs (RIP) had a new car every 6 moths just so he didn't have to have a license plate and he was rich as f**k. If I had that kinda $$ I get a new car as soon as the new car smell went away.

Nothing wrong with the latest and greatest if that's what you want! Based on your other cars this isn't your usual MO though - would you ditch your defenders if you saw a chinese lady with kids on one?

I wish he got the convertible. You're a pretty big douche now but if you were in the convertible your douche status would have been through the roof. It's also the only way to make your auto 911 gayer.

Is it safe to assume that since we have now reached the weekend we are only hours away from pictures of naked chicks draped all over the car?

If the point was to get poon, I say epic fail if he hasn't scored any action yet.

I have never leased a car, so I don't know what the numbers come out to. But why not lease then?

911s have very high residuals -- well maybe a bit less when you load them with options like this one.

When I looked at buying a 997 when the 997 first came out, I could have gotten a base carrera for ~65k. The car would be worth about 60% of that now so it is cheaper to own a 911 than say, a 5 series BMW or other less expensive car because they hold their value so well (except for turbos which for some reason depreciate like rocks).

I am going to look at the 991 this sat. If I get one, it will be basically a no option car and be about ~82-85k (depending if I am willing to shell out $3500 for either paint or the sport bucket seats if they actually make them available). I would expect to lose about 15k in value over two years. If I buy it at the end of the year when they are discounting (assuming that happens -- probably will), you can normally get 10-14% off msrp so you could do even better.

My lotus elise, which I bought used with 5k miles on it and less than a year old and which I then drove for 3.5 years and 35k miles. When it was totalled, the insurance company gave me only $5400 less than I paid. I could not have leased a hyundai for that! Of course, the hyndaui would not have needed the work the lotus did, but still.

The best way to buy cars is to focus on the ones with the highest residuals and buy, not lease, them. You can buy a D90 and all it will cost you in maintaince (unless you abuse or rust it). Similarly, my VW diesel should have very good resale, as will my new lotus, as will a new 911.

I took my 991 to Azul in Alhambra last nite and the valet parked it right behind my friend's 2012 black Gallardo. He didn't even get one compliment, but I had several people walking around my car, staring at it, telling me that it was a badass porsche. I had 1 girl ask for a ride but she was fat so no way.

I saw the 991 unveiling at the Laguna Seca Rennsport Reunion last year. They are nice but still just a 911 in a sea of them here in LA. Don't get me wrong, I, like everyone else like the 911. I'm pretty sure they had your grey one there along with Blue, Black and Silver. If you really wanted to be a Playa' you should have gotten Adriatic, Mexico, Gulf or Riviera Blue with black wheels...

Also, did the suspension blow out on the driver's side when you got in?

Nope, only in 2012 boxer, they have one at Rusnak Porsche Pasadena right now, I saw it yesterday while buying a keychain/battery tender. Windows getting 35% tint tomorrow and I'm looking at purchasing matte black HRE wheels, they say I have to keep the same tires because the P-zero pirellis on mine were special designed for the 991, can't use any other ones as the size dosen't exist with other manufacturers.

------ Follow up post added February 17th, 2012 11:51 AM ------

BTW, they told me they are getting rid of the cayman, it will be replaced by the new Spider, I saw the concept pic but I think 911 will always be the shit. Never liked the intermediate porsches.

That's mine. It's a "Vintage" built chassis/body not Beck. I like the Vintage better aesthetically and mechanically. Has FAT 2.7 Porsche engine/transaxle. The big deal was all the aluminum work which was more expensive than the car/engine itself. Same guy that did Leno/Seinfeld 550's. Original 550 is $1M plus. Most replicas can be had for about $20K. Mine was a bit more ($80K)........still less than 1/10th of the original and still fun as shit to drive. In the summer it's all I drive if it's not raining.

Like I said, most fun car to drive, not easy to drive "at speed"........but safer than a motorcycle (which wife won't let me drive anymore).

Congrats on the 911 Neil. Porsche definitely does a great job. Love the color too.

I think you would do "well" in my toy in LA.
