Those fee's are reasonable/ in line with market.

Thats how it works- except the ISF should have been filed 24hrs before your cargo ever loaded on a ship. Filing late can result in a $5k fine and additional scruitiny from the inspecting officer.

You should also expect to share in the cost of a VACIS exam (xray) of the container. I have never had a container that wasn't xrayed and I have brought in dozens.

I don't think your cage should have cost more than $2500, so I'm leery on the single entry bond fee.

ISF is the security filing. The shipping line files one 48hrs before ships departure. Your matching one is to be filed 24hrs before shipment by your shiping agent/broker. Intent is to advise Customs of every single inbound shipment so they can "advance target" certain shipments for further look see. Meant to be a mechanism to precent scenarios like the movie Sum of All Fears. Is basically enough info for them to do an online background check on you, as well as who is shipping you whatever it is. Date of birth, passport number, etc- you get the idea.

Yes can you dig it... I knew that you could.

Yes in those pre-Uncle Douglas days, the importing was risky and the unanticipated costs overwhelming at times.

Knowing the Uncle Douglas scenario brought stability to chaos and predictability to uncertainty even when you take into account the slack attention to detail with regard to warehouse workers.

Try and "sail to close to the wind" and you can put yourself in a bad place where even Uncle Douglas can't help.
BUT
As as long as one keeps their end in order, the Uncle Douglas theme is smooth importation without a glitch, that's for sure.
Almost like magic.
