I bought this Jerry can that fits into a spare tire. What I bought it for I can't say but I thought it was too cool to pass up. After thinking about it I am going to use it to refill my generator that I will keep on my sankey trailer when I am done building it for camping. The can appears to be a rare one as I can't really find a whole lot of info on it. All of that being said I am wondering if I should leave it alone or restore to use it? Would you guys media blast , powder coat, and por15 the inside? What's your thought.
The plan if I use it is to put a swing away spare tire holder on the sankey and mount it in the spare.
Pros, cons, and or ideas would be helpful.

Personally, it looks pretty rare, I would leaving alone.

If you really want to restore it, I would sand it and rattle can it. Probably more authentic, since it is a tool.

Does it hold liquid? If so I wouldn't do a thing to it. It has "patina"

If unique/rare, leave it alone as it is only original once.

X4 for leaving it alone Abe, it looks good as it is. I don't know where it would have come from, however I have seen a similar one before, Mercedes Benz used to supply a black version that fitted in the spare tyre under the carpet of the boot (trunk), although it was black. My uncle has a pair of early 70's 280SE's that have them. Neat looking can.

I have been torn on what to do. I will leave it. Thanks guys. I have seen the MB ones and if I could find one of those I would use one.
