That "Africa" is well done. Agree it has Defender hints but it is tastefully done and original enough.

Having owned several Jeeps, a YJ and TJ and now owning a 110, I think comparing them are like comparing Apples to Chevrolets. A Jeep can be a capable off roader, after spending TONS on money on it. A Defender is better straight out of the box.

This new "Africa" design of the 4 door Jeep, I like it. But would take it for what it is worth. It is a pretty SUV for the suburban moms that want something "cool" that is different from the current crop of SUVs. And this is something that the dad would actually drive. I bet a dollar that Jeep never builds it.

Deep down on some level, we all have to agree that the reason we own Defenders is as follows:

1) it's iconic, and most of us growing up as a kid, dreamt of owning one some day
2) it's one of the best Overlanding vehicles out there
3) the amount of attention it attracts from everyone between the age of 7 to 70

I personally would not own a Jeep, no matter how good they are (and they truly are very good off the showroom floor), and am willing to bet that as long as the new Defender is produced with some semblance of utility, many of us on this board would rush to buy it.

Now, if only JLRNA would realize that!

Hold your tongue infidel! Don't go bringing Toto into this!

I would definitely consider a 4-door diesel jeep, not as a replacement to my 90, in addition to.

Ha! Many on this forum have already confessed or hinted at owning Toyotas. Which means there is no limit to their brand disloyalty! Wanting or owning a Jeep or Toyota is like saying you're a patriot American and yet having a Code Pink girlfriend.

I will fully confess to owning a Toyota (having had 3 Tacomas, I unabashedly love them) long with my Rovers...but I would totally date a code pink girl, the volatility would be interesting. Everybody's gotta eat!

I also think the last good Africa Jeep was with the LRDG.

Now this is an Africa Jeep. Get some! Hell yeah!

But truth be told, if I couldn't own a Rover, this would be my ideal vehicle.

Jeep would have a long way to go uphill to get me back.

however, i'm swapping Code Pink for Toyota on my Kiss My Ass list. So Code Pink, Mitsubishi, Sushi and Gerry McGovern can all kiss my ass.

You're GD right it is! Rat Patrol and Johnny Quest made me who I am! Race Bannon is still the baddest ass character I can think of.

Nothing make me wanna roll coal more than seeing a Prius.
Does everyone feel this way, or just me?

Mark: I knew it! Rat Patol was one on favorites when I was a kid. Like top 5 fav. I also loved (still do) the Creature Double Feature movie "Them" when I was five, so I was not your normal child.

Diesels were about to emerge in the USA right when the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel kicked in nation wide. That put the kabosh on it for all of us. It's going to be tough getting adoption when diesel is the same price as premium unleaded.

We need real energy policy now.

Between Jonny Quest and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom how could anyone who grew up with those influences - not long to become a boy adventurer?

And we'll just consider this one episode an oversight. Probably a substitute animator.

Nope…

The art direction was clear enough that the animators made significant efforts to draw "realistic" vehicles - Jeep, rover, or other… And place the vehicle type as appropriate to the local. Rovers in Egypt, Jeep in the Desert Southwest.
