So i am looking at a japanese spec 97SW w low mlg. What is the consensus on the value of a jap spec truck vs a straight NAS spec truck?

JDM: Japanese domestic market doesn't have all the negative racial connotations.

so JDM Spec vs NAS

The Japanese trucks are NAS spec trucks with a few more ad ons like power windows and central locking on many.

I didn't invent the term JDM. Its "generally regarded as an ethnic slur".

Not really seeking one out, they seem to seek me out. The last 2 SW's i have looked at were JDM spec trucks and the owners did not disclose. This one (car fax) shows imported into the US 5/10 with 27K miles. I guess i really have no way to tell how many miles were put on it before the ODO was swapped. I saw the car in person last week and the ODO read 33K. Carfax is clean

Is it simply an abbreviation? It has a negative connotation because it is generally regarded as an ethnic slur. 110 000 Japanese where put in concentration camps in this is country during WW2. 60% of which were US citizens.

Since people have beaten the Jap thing pretty good what if you didn't have a "straight" NAS spec truck?

Does that mean yours is a bent or gay NAS truck?

Did these Japanese spec trucks come in ST as well? I'm in the military and may be getting stationed over there. This may be the only way I can afford a NAS ST type truck

Nope.... And there is only a certain range of VINs that are eligible to import here.

Japanese regs make it very very tough to keep a vehicle on the road over there. There is a thriving business in the UK reimporting vehicles from Japan.

The Japanese spec trucks could only be imported if the vin was within a certain range. I do not know the actual range.

If you search Japanese VIN range on here this comes up.

http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...nese+vin+range

which includes this

http://www.epa.gov/EPA-IMPACT/2006/S...y-26/i8260.htm

which is the EPA document I just told you to look for - List of Nonconforming Vehicles Decided to be Eligible for Importation. It tells you:

Land Rover.................... 432 ...... ...... Defender 90 ................. 1997
(manufactured before
9/1/97) VIN
``SALDV224*VA'' or
``SALDV324*VA''.

So for example this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...m=221354459304

VIN SALDV3241VA129380

falls under SALDV324*VA and therefore is potentially importable depending on the date of manufacture.

Please PM me for an address to send a check to.
