Jamaican Honeymoon - Can I rent a Defender?

Headed to Montego Bay in June for my honeymoon and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with renting any sort of Rover down there or know of someone who would rent theirs to me for the week? Would love a 90 or 110, but would even settle for a Series.

Thanks,
Erik

There's a dealership on Kingston, which might be a good place to start?

Never been. But on my bucket list.
Working for an airline, I don't know why I've never been.

My Wife and I went to Ocho Rios two years ago and I tried to do the same thing and had no luck.

The driving there is insane and outside of what I think is normal. People passing trucks on a two lane road up a hill and around a blind corner with goats on both sides.

I'm sure it's somewhere that will rent one. Enjoy yourself. It's the one vacation I didn't want to return from even though my liver did.

If you can not rent one there is a tour you can take in defenders through the blue mountain's.

Wife and I did it was a fun day.

If Uncle Gustavo puts enough cash in that wedding envelope, then I should have no trouble renting the vehicle of my choice.

There are a number of areas in Jamaica where it is not safe for outsiders to travel.
I would examine if you actually need a Land Rover and what areas you would want to travel to and from if you had one.

Was there for 3 weeks many years ago helping a guy from FL fix his boat that was stolen by Haitians and damaged trying to take a load of refugees to USA.

Thanks for the advice. I might just stick to the resort and hang at the bar for 8 days.

I've been there a few times and only once or twice did I ever feel unsafe. We eloped in Negril in '98 and then have been back for a couple of jobs. One was a travel story where we drove almost the whole island. First time driving RHD on the left…. very interesting experience. The mtn roads can be scary.

I'd suggest a least a couple of day trips outside of Montego. Even if it's an organized tour or something. You can even get a driver for the day relatively cheap and go down to Negril for the day. Both the beach and the cliffs are amazing.

Where are y'all staying?

Ask about a boat captain too! Floyd's Pelican Bar... It's on the south side of the island off Sav la Mar… about a two hour drive from Montego and a 20 min boat ride. That side of the island is very quiet & not touristy. Jake's is down there too… one of my favorite hotels in the world.

Travel up to "no send no come" or "trenchtown" and report back how safe you felt.
