You're an immediate gratification guy arent you?

BTW - why do you have to wait until June - I'm trying to find if it says when the first issue ships and I dont see it anywhere?

See the bit about June 31 date under their Charter (see thumbnail below). A publication like this is a rare beast. Yes, I'm easily satisfied but equally capable of dishing out dissatisfaction when warranted. Eating my words is common.

The way I read it, the June 30th date is the latest date which they will offer the "Charter Subscriber" offer.

I'm all revved up to subscribe, but I need to know when the are mailing, since I'm in the middle of an extended move and I dont want nice magazines going to the wrong places.

$10 an issue is pretty steep.
I'll wait for the DVD.

I'm paying $8 an issue now for LRO, with stupid (my opinion) articles on rover hybrid abominations ( I can't believe people do that to rovers), and repetative DIY Series restorations (seriously beat to death topic). I get maybe one story of interest, and a throw-me-a-bone coverage once in a while in the tech session. Oh ya, who cares what the editorial staff drives? Or what tool of the month they keep in their vehicle (gerber knife, work lamp, ipod...seriously). And worst of all, it's the only option out there!

p.s. anybody here planning on green laning on someones farm in scotland anytime soon?

Overlander, (cool name choice)

Thanks for posting the link to our Journal. We are very excited about the first issue, which goes to print next week. Being an independent magazine, your support is greatly appreciated.
Oh, and issue two will have articles from both Tom Sheppard (VDEG) and Tom Collins (US Camel Trophy Team Director) Thought you would want to know...

Please let me know if I can answer any questions.

Even though I'm leary of new mags these days (way to many are long on fluff posh crap and short on substance) I decided to give it a go and bought a 2 year subscription.
If the magazine is 1/2 as good as the books "Overlanding", "Overland" or "Cruising the Sahara", I'll be happy.

I signed up for a two year subscription several weeks ago - one look at the editorial staff was all it took to convince me to subscribe. Tom Sheppard's first book is selling for $250 on Ebay if you haven't looked lately. Lots of other talent there too.

Damn, I better take care of my copy. I think I paid 10 or 20 for it at MAR a few years ago.

The Premier issue of Overland Journal has printed, and is in the mail. Those in UT and CO should have seen it today, with CA and AZ showing up tomorrow or Friday

Thanks so much to all that supported our independent publication. Everyone who subscribes between now and the 30th of June will receive the premier issue. Issue two has some great content lined up too, including Tom Collins pre-scout of the 1994 Camel Trophy in Defenders and Tom Sheppard has provided a technical piece on digital photography while on expedition. Very cool stuff.

Here it is, leaning against our editors Series III

I finally got my issue yesterday, and all I can say is "DAMN". This is the first time in my life that I have received a magazine, where I wanted to read EVERY article. I breezed through the journal last night, and realized it has too much rich content to read in one sitting. This is the perfect periodical if I'm going to fly internationally and stuck on a plane for 10+ hours. The quality is second to none- definite coffee table material.

Where was this when I was stuck in Iraq for 10 months?

I thought I combed the internet for overland equipment retailers thoroughly, only to find out that there was about 10 advertisers in this magazine I had never heard of. It goes to show, it's all about who you know.

Hey Scott,
I loved the write up on Graham Jackson's 110 modification in the "...dark continent" article, but I would love to hear more about the unseen modifications he did. On his website, he refers to a custom steel box mounted on the frame that he used to hold enough quarts of oil for a full change. I'm very interested in that mod.

I think it would rock if we could have the editorial staff leverage this forum, or some forum to interact with the readers, on the dozens of follow up questions (at least from me) that will occur after each issue. Maybe we could add a new section in here on overland something, something for that purpose.

Alright, you guys convinced me, I'm in. I hope to glean some good info as we are looking to do our own trip across Canada all the way to Newfoundland and back in a couple years.
