x2!
You probably did the best thing, but this guy sounds like a real douche! Definitely follow the advice of others here and do CL deals away from the home...Way too many crazies on there these days! Never hurts to have a pistol in your back pocket either

I'm still trying to figure out the connection between the chair and the Nissan getting plowed. Lol
I thought you were going to tell us the same guy that bought the chair rammed the Nissan.
Of course maybe he did while driving the chair and lost control.

I have bought hundreds of things on craigslist but have sold none. There is a lesson in that.

I recently read an article about a guy who buys things on Craigslist with the soul purpose of during people. He recently won a 30k lawsuit against a guy who sold him a 30 dollar printer.
He likes to sue claiming things don't work and most people ignore the lawsuit so he wins the case when they don't show up to court. Guy is a complete savage.

[QUOTE="Contractor;762698"] X2, F that. Always make your craigslist transaction in a public place. I'll never let someone come to my house and I'll never make a transaction without someone coming with me and packing heat.[/
Packing heat comes without question my daughter, girlfriend and I pack heat. Welcome to my house.

Another reason not to live in New York. I grew up in NY. Only the bad guys carry guns.

Guy thought he could get a new chair from HM and sell it on ebay, when he called them they told him it was re-furb and the warranty was expired.
screw that guy, keep the money, or start calling him every 15 minutes demanding your chair back if he wants a refund. Then just be sure to not be home when he comes by, win-win

I've given away some decent but no longer needed stuff here, on g&r, other special interest forums, etc. for this very reason...plus you meet some cool people face to face.
Good luck...normally I'd say ****'em and push back, but since he seems a wee bit off and knows where you live etc., it may be prudent to refund and walk away.

Great idea on not having CL peeps to your home. Although, then we are back to throwing good stuff away that is useable and recyclable.
At the end of the day, piece of mind is priceless! You did the right thing Ben.

No doubt your peace of mind is worth more than 400 bucks.

My wife has bought and sold numerous small things on Craigslist without issue. Of course I am the one that has to meet these people in the WalMart parking lot for the exchange. We always meet somewhere public. A lot of police depts. even have dedicated "Exchange Zones" at their station for CL transactions.
The only time I've ever had someone come to my house is when we're giving something away. Even then I meet them at the end of my driveway and keep my garage closed to keep their eyes off my stuff.

If doing more CL from your residence, these are better than alarm stickers for your house.

That works unless you're giving away a piano

We have sold a few items on Craig's list and we always post in the ad that we will meet them at the local police station, Cash only. Keeps the crazies away from the beginning and keeps people from seeing our house or even knowing our names.

I love the idea of Ben being murdered over dissatisfaction with a designer chair. Odds are if he is that into mid-century furniture he is a giant pussy anyway. At worst you two might have a slap fight on 5th ave.
