Interesting e-bay item....

Here's an interesting e-bay listing....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-...item4cf22612b6

Some quotes:

- "truck from Rovers Out East"
- "
it will need a frame at some point in the not to distant future (1-2 yr?)."
- "
when the shipper tried to load this "nicely running truck" it wouldn't make it up the ramp"
- "
I have bought and sold several cars over the internet and have always had a good experience, this is an exception"

The bad part of this POST is , somehow is Throwing ROE ( Doc ) to the Lions.

I could understand if they had an issue unresolved, but I think the Ebay Poster aired laundry on eBay not here, and with the original Post here it is airing laundry.

My opinion , not that anyone cares

Jeff- Pretty sure he is on this forum. Agreed sight unseen UK trucks are a gamble.
From the looks of the site he has some other nice trucks. Maybe the ebay guy should have bought the blue hicap. Seems like a nice one.

While it is true that buying a rover sight unseen might be a little naive: The snake-oil jargon used to sell these trucks is very comforting; "reliable daily driver" and so on. One may draw ones own conclusions about the fact that the marketing turns out to be bullshit. This guy could have easily cut and pasted the waffle that convinced him to buy the truck in the first place. Instead he chose to show some integrity and make any future owner well aware of what they are getting into. I imagine he'd have appreciated that sort of complete and honest disclosure prior to buying the truck in the first place. I know I would.

I bought a truck from Aaron (ROE) almost a year ago, and while my truck has/had issues, they were to be expected. Aaron is a stand up guy.

You can't buy these trucks sight unseen and expect them to be perfect. They are used, 25 year old trucks and likely have multiple owners too. Sounds like the guy bought a used Land Rover.

Sure, caveat emptor and all that. I was defending the eBay seller's right to describe his experience in his listing. I imagine he was fed a similar line of bullshit to the one I fell for:

"it's a daily driver, no known issues and it will do 75mph on the highway all day"

We can joke about old rovers all day long but my conscience would prevent me from making a living in that manner.

You are absolutely right. I guess the point I meant to make was that I knew what I was getting in to and what to expect. Before buying my truck from Aaron off of eBay, I asked lots of questions, called him, and flew down to NC to crawl all over the truck before handing over the check. I could have backed out. I think the buyer just needs to do their homework, that's all.

Didn't mean to throw anyone to the lions, but I personally would at least want to be aware of these sorts of things, especially being in the market for a 110. I do remember that truck being bargain priced (if I recall, 12 to 14-ish), and the price did not seem to line up with the description: good runner, solid, etc... I realize that "good runner" is subjective and could mean anything from "starts most days" to "factory new"; likewise "solid" could mean anything from "not a liquid" to "new panels & galvenized frame". However, it's good to have a benchmark as to what these types of terms mean to certain people.

Agreed. Short of something put together by a reputable restoration shop or sold by a reputable dealer (and selling this type of truck as a roadworthy vehicle is not the way to build the kind of reputation you want, regardless of the price), buying a car more than five years old sight unseen is dodgy at best.

His bashing (justified or not) of ROE probably got his listing pulled by e-bay.
